BEIJING, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Local governments should lay stress on economy restructuring and innovation to guarantee the long-term stable and relatively fast economic growth, said Li Keqiang, Chinese Vice Premier.     Li made the remarks in his recent inspection and research trip to central China's Jiangxi Province from Sept. 24 to 26. We should base ourselves on the current realities and be more forward-looking and broad-minded," He said.     Li added that China should push forward the deepening of reforms and strategic economy restructuring while maintaining the relatively fast economic growth.     China's economy expanded by 7.9 percent from a year ago in the second quarter this year, faster than the 6.1 percent in the first quarter, which was the worst quarterly growth in a decade, dampened by a slump in exports.     Li urged provinces in the central region to give a full play to their growth potential and advantages, take on the development opportunities of strategic importance, improve the quality of economic growth and achieve remarkable economic progress through reforms, innovation and industrial upgrading.     Central China provinces should endeavor to achieve remarkable economic advancement by 2015, according to a plan passed Wednesday by the State Council, the Cabinet.     The central areas include Shanxi, Anhui, Jiangxi, Henan, Hubei and Hunan provinces. BEIJING, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Senior Communist Party of China (CPC) leader Li Changchun has pledged to strengthen cooperation between Chinese and foreign media and to facilitate foreign media coverage of China. Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks Friday evening when he met the heads of 10 major media organizations attending the World Media Summit in Beijing.     The Chinese government has been promoting media development and supporting Chinese media in enhancing exchanges and cooperation with foreign counterparts in news, human resources, information technologies and business development, he said. PHUKET, Thailand, July 21 (Xinhua) -- China is willing to cooperate with the Philippines to push forward the relations between the two countries, said Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi in the meeting with his Philippine counterpart Alberto Romulo Tuesday.     The Chinese government encourages and supports competitive enterprises to invest in the Philippines, and it also promotes cooperation in areas such as agriculture and new energy, said Yang. BEIJING, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- China Unicom (Hong Kong) Ltd. Said Sunday that it signed a deal with Telefonica, the Spanish telecom operator, to enhance their alliance by spending 1 billion U.S. dollars each on share purchase.     China Unicom would acquire shares equal to about between 0.885 percent to 0.892 percent of stake in Telefonica, according to the company's statement to the Shanghai Stock Exchange.     Telefonica would increase its stake in China Unicom from 5.38 percent to 8.06 percent, the statement said.     Their cooperation would focus on infrastructure and equipment purchase, mobile service platforms, research and development, and service provision to multinational clients, according to the deal.

Vice Premier Li Keqiang also attended the meeting.     The meeting discussed and passed a guideline on maintaining stable and fast economic growth in the western regions amid the global economic downturn.     The government would carry on with its policy to develop the western regions as the policy proved effective in boosting economic and social progresses there in the 10 years since its launch.
