CHULA VISTA (KGTV) -- Chula Vista police investigators are searching for clues in the fatal shooting of a 52-year-old man early Saturday morning.Officers responded to a report of gunshots at around 5:08 a.m. in the 900 block of Agua Tibia Avenue, a few blocks west of Cook Elementary School.A witness led officers to a residence where gunshots were believed to have originated, according to CVPD Lt. Dan Peak.Peak said when officers entered the home, they discovered the victim on the ground with a gunshot wound."Officers attempted life saving measures on the subject and despite resuscitation efforts, he was pronounced deceased at the scene," said Peak.The victim has been identified as Dean Tinsley. No further information about the victim was released.Peak said there is no known motive for the slaying at this time. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A family in Otay Ranch is hoping a group of teens will face consequences for allegedly assaulting their teenage son.The incident was captured on cell phone video and posted to social media by the teen's mother. The family says their teen was waiting for his mom to pick him up at Cotixan Mexican Restaurant on Thursday after school, when a group of teens walked in and started kicking and punching the boy. At one point in the seven-second clip, you can see someone throw a chair on the teen. The boy's father, Margarito Martin, tells 10News he was shocked when he saw the video. He says everything started days before on Instagram, when, he says, his son told someone to stop harassing one of his friends. Martin says one teen then started messaging his son telling him he was going to beat him up. Martin says the incident was reported to Chula Vista Police but he's worried the teens will get away with what they did. (KGTV) -- Dozens of South Bay parents want to know why the principal at their neighborhood school was unceremoniously removed from her post right before the school closed for Fall Break. “I’m very frustrated,” said Greg Rogers Elementary PTA President Caroline Garvin. Garvin said she learned Friday that the Chula Vista Elementary School District reassigned Principal Erika Taylor.  A district spokesman said Taylor was reassigned as a Principal on Special Assignment in special education. Garvin said the Rogers faculty was told Friday towards the end of the school day. “The looks on the face of the staff:  There were people crying.  There were people that were upset because she was a true leader,” she said.  “To take that away from us without explanation and to do it before a break so that parents can’t even be here to help fight for her is just wrong to me.” All the schools in the Chula Vista Elementary School District are closed for the next two weeks for Fall Break. Garvin said there are a lot of parents upset about Taylor’s removal.  Garvin said she confronted CVESD Superintendent Dr. Francisco Escobedo. “He said he would not be able to give an explanation not now and not in the future,” she recalled. In the meantime, Garvin said Taylor has hired a lawyer to fight for her job back. “She’s got three kids.  She’s a single mom,” said Garvin. “I’m really proud of her.  I want her to fight this.” 1529

CHOLLAS VIEW (KGTV) - A short pursuit ended in a crash near Gompers Preparatory School Saturday night.The pursuit started around 6:45 p.m. at 4700 Castana Street in Chollas View, police said. The suspect was wanted for speeding when they took off. The pursuit ended a few minutes later when the suspect crashed less than a mile away into a railing at Gompers Preparatory School. The suspect was arrested. No one was injured. Gompers Preparatory School is a public charter school that operates in cooperation with the University of California, San Diego.   588

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Police are investigating after a man was shot and killed before crashing into the side of a building in Chula Vista Wednesday afternoon. According to police, the initial call came in around noon as a drunk driver. Witnesses reported seeing a man in a tan SUV slumped over and followed him.Police say the SUV then slammed into a gate and crashed into the side of a self-storage building traveling roughly 10 to 15 miles per hour on Industrial Boulevard near L Street.When police arrived, they discovered that the man was dead inside the vehicle. Police confirmed later in the day Wednesday that the man was shot. Shortly before the crash, witnesses in the area reported hearing gunshots. Investigators are currently working to get surveillance video from the self-storage facility. Police are also asking that anyone with information on a possible suspect contact them.  932
