A Georgia school decided on Thursday to reverse its decision it made earlier in the week to end the practice of students participating in the Pledge of Allegiance during all-school assemblies, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. Earlier in the week, Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School said that the pledge would no longer be recited in such assemblies after some parents and students expressed concerns. The school said that it wasn't outright banning the Pledge of Allegiance from being recited during school hours, but moving the pledge to the school's classrooms. “Over the past couple of years it has become increasingly obvious that more and more of our community were choosing to not stand and/or recite the pledge," principal Lara Zelski said, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "There are many emotions around this and we want everyone in our school family to start their day in a positive manner. After all, that is the whole purpose of our morning meeting.” By late Thursday, backlash from the public and public officials forced the school to reverse its decision. Georgia' Department of Education requires schools to make time for the Pledge of Allegiance, but students are not required to stand or recite it. “Students are offered the opportunity to participate in the Pledge of Allegiance," county superintendent Morcease J. Beasley told the Constitution-Journal. "If they choose to participate or not is their individual and constitutional right and the reason the flag of the United States of America exists. A Las Vegas man says the possibility of him being deported caused his 14-year-old son to jump out of a moving vehicle, leading to his death.Reporters for Scripps station KTNV in Las Vegas spoke to Ezequiel Anorve from behind bars at the Clark County Detention Center on Thursday night.Anorve, an undocumented immigrant, has been in jail since Aug. 17 on a felony charge of battery with a deadly weapon. He's currently being kept on an immigration hold.Anvorve's family visited him in jail between 8 and 9 p.m. on Aug. 20. During that time, Anorve told his wife two sons that he may be deported to Mexico.Anorve's 14-year-old son, Silas, took the news especially hard. Just 15 minutes later, he jumped out of a moving car on a busy highway. Another vehicle ran him over, killing him,Anorve's older son also ran across a few lanes of traffic to try and save his little brother, according to Anorve, but it was too late.Anorve says the stress surrounding his possible deportation led Silas to jump out of the car, taking his own life."This is just a message from God, to show the world, not just Nevada, not just the United States, to show the world, how America is hurting and breaking families apart," Anorve said.Anorve is hoping to make it to his son's funeral next week but doesn't know if he will be allowed to attend. 1369

A Flint woman was accused of placing her infant children inside a suitcase and leaving them at the curb.On Wednesday, Flint Police responded to a residence in the 500 block of West Pierson Road to assist Child Protective Services.When officers were on scene, a 26-year-old woman placed items to the curb "as if it were trash" and fled from the residence at West Pierson Road on foot, according to a release from Flint police.Police say she was detained after a brief foot chase. Officers returned to the residence and found the woman's two sons, but two children were missing. After searching the area, officers located two 11-month-old twin girls inside a suitcase at the curbside. They were transported to the hospital where they were listed in good condition.The woman remains in custody. 804
