BEIJING, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said Sunday that China-Japan ties are at a crucial stage, urging the two countries to enhance mutual trust and step up dialogue and cooperation in all spheres."In the first decade of this century, China and Japan have taken an important step towards the goal of a strategic and mutually beneficial relationship after undergoing twists and turns," said Wen in his congratulatory letter to a meeting on China-Japan friendship.The first meeting of the fifth 21st Century Committee for China-Japan Friendship, an advisory body for the two governments, opened in Beijing on Sunday to discuss various dimensions of China-Japan relations and provide policy suggestions to the two governments.The committee, with Tang Jiaxuan, a former state councilor, and Taizo Nishimuro, Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE) president, as chairs of the two sides, is holding a three-day meeting."At the crucial stage of bilateral relations, I hope the members from both sides will work closely and come up with valuable suggestions to contribute to the long-term friendship and common prosperity," Wen said.The relations between China and Japan, two important neighboring countries in Asia, have seen stable development since Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama took office last September.Wen said the cooperation between China and Japan will "not only benefit both countries and Asia at large, but also exert positive and profound impact on world political and economic structure" in the face of complex international situation and many grave challenges.Hatoyama in his congratulatory letter also urged the two countries to beef up understanding and cooperation to build comprehensively their strategic and reciprocal relations.In his keynote speech at the meeting, Tang Jiaxuan made four proposals on advancing bilateral ties.Tang proposed that the two countries continue to foster strategic mutual trust, work on the economic relations by highlighting cooperation in environmental protection, low-carbon economy and high-tech, boost cultural exchanges and enhance coordination in international and regional affairs.He said China-Japan relations still face some problems and challenges that can't be neglected, noting that their political mutual-trust needs to be promoted, their national feelings towards each other need to be improved and some sensitive issues need to be properly handled.Taizo Nishimuro also made proposals including enhancing political mutual trust, promoting trade liberalization, encouraging cultural exchanges and promoting Asian regional cooperation and world peace.

ADDIS ABABA, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- China will lose no time in implementing the "eight new measures" to strengthen China-Africa cooperation in the next three years, said China's Minister of Commerce Chen Deming on Tuesday. The fourth ministerial meeting of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation was held in the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh on Nov. 8-9. At the meeting, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao announced eight new measures the Chinese government will take to strengthen China-Africa cooperation in the next three years.     The success of the Sharm el-Sheikh meeting has opened a new page for China-Africa cooperation, Chen said during his talks with Erastus Mwencha, deputy chairperson of the Commission of the African Union (AU).     China will focus on improving African people's well-being, strengthening Africa's agriculture and infrastructure and expanding cooperation in human resources development, he said.     China will support Africa to increase its capacity for independent development, and join hands with Africa in tackling such challenges as the global financial crisis and climate change, in a bid to promote China-Africa friendly cooperation and Africa's economic and social development, said the Chinese minister.     Chen appreciated the AU's efforts to further Africa's integration process and develop China-Africa cooperation, saying China will continue to strengthen all-round cooperation with the AU, and support the AU to play a bigger role in regional and international affairs.     For his part, Mwencha said Africa and China respect each other and treat each other on an equal footing, adding that bilateral ties have stood the test of the time.     He believed the Sharm el-Sheikh meeting will further promote the development of cooperation between Africa and China.     China's eight new measures to enhance cooperation with Africa are consistent to Africa's practical needs, said the AU official.     Mwencha said the AU Commission is willing to play a bigger role in implementing the eight new measures and enhance dialogue between Africa and China.     Chen arrived here on Monday for a working visit, which will also take him to Mozambique and Tanzania.

GENEVA, March 17 (Xinhua) -- It's still not the time to talk about sanctions against Iran as the door of diplomacy is still open on finding a compromise over its nuclear program, He Yafei, China's ambassador to the United Nations Office in Geneva, said on Wednesday."I think the door of compromise through negotiations, the door of diplomacy, is not closed," He told reporters."We need to do our best, to exhaust every avenue before we decide on whether we should have new additional sanction measures, " He said.The Chinese ambassador said that Iran, as a member of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), is entitled to the peaceful use of nuclear energy, but the country "should not develop any capability that can produce nuclear weapons.""We certainly do not want to see an Iran with a nuclear weapon capability...China is very much for safeguarding and strengthening the nuclear non-proliferation regime," He said.According to the ambassador, the way out for Iran's nuclear issue is to have a dialogue and to have negotiations with the country.He added that China had been talking to Iran constantly and urging the country to agree to a proposal by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as a first step to solve the nuclear issue.Under the IAEA proposal, most of Iran's existing low-grade enriched uranium should be shipped to Russia and France, where it would be processed into fuel rods with the purity of 20 percent. The higher-grad nuclear fuel would then be transported back to Iran for the use at a research reactor.The United States and its Western allies have long been accusing Iran of secretly developing nuclear weapons under the disguise of a civilian program. We have cordial and friendly relations," Moni said.Briefing reporters on the visit, Moni said that after the new government assumed power in January 2009, the Chinese government sent a special representative to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and expressed strong desire to work together.Moni said Bangladesh also wants to strengthen bilateral ties and cooperation with China .On the sidelines of the world climate change conference in Copenhagen last year, Hasina had meeting with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and discussed bilateral issues of mutual interest.The foreign minister said apart from Sheikh Hasina's visit, a number of cultural exchange programs will take place this year marking the 35th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Dhaka and Beijing.
