SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A new food hall and beer garden is planned for National City with hopes of reinvigorating the neighborhood.Market on 8th is currently under construction at 41 E 8th Street. The 9,000-square-foot location will include at least eight eateries and retail locations, according to founding partner Joel Tubao."My family has been in the community here since 1968," Tubao said, who owns other properties in the area. "There’s a huge need for it."RELATED: Hot chicken to bao: Six new flavors move into Liberty Public MarketTubao confirmed a number of eateries are already planned for the food hall: Moe Coffee: Cafe and roaster that brews up a variety of coffee drinks using micro-roasted, organic beans. The hall's location sits steps from Southwestern Community College, Kimball Park, several mom-and-pop shops, and future residential development. Next door, neighborhood favorite Niederfrank's Ice Cream will continue to scoop up soft serve without interruption, Tubao added.RELATED: Craft beer scene brewing in Chula Vista"There’s a lot of people living in the South Bay that have to go somewhere else for food and craft beer," Tubao said. "We want walkability in National City. We want to add to what’s currently and hopefully a stepping stone for more of that."The food hall is tentatively scheduled to debut in the first quarter of 2020, according to Tubao."We believe it’s going to transform the area," Tubao added. "I think it's going to be a place for people to go to."Check out a before and (proposed) after look at the location below: 2465

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A heartbroken Allied Gardens homeowner is pleading for the return of a stolen trailer? which contained the belongings of her hospitalized mother. When Erin Rose went out to the driveway of her home on Delbarton Street Friday morning, she froze. "My heart just dropped into my stomach. I felt nauseous," said Rose.Missing from her driveway was her 5-ft x 8-ft trailer. Drag marks revealed how it left the home."You can see it extends all the way to the street ... and to the intersection," said Rose.Rose had locked up the trailer in two places. The only thing she found were the remnants of one of the locks."Just heartbreaking and sad," said Rose. The trailer contained all the belongings of her mother Gail, 74, a part-time San Diegan recently hospitalized in Wisconsin with a heart condition. Rose had been storing her mother's belongings since buying a home months ago."That's all my mom has left. Now she has nothing," said Rose.Inside the trailer: furniture, household items, and some jewelry, including family heirlooms. There was also a lifetime of photos. Most of them haven't been digitized. Rose waited a week to tell her mother, until she was strong enough to receive the news."She cried, she cried. She knew she couldn't get stressed out, couldn't get her heart rate up. Right now she's focusing on her health. Hasn't really hit her she's going to come back to nothing," said Rose.Rose is now hoping to change that by making a plea for tips."I just want when she comes back to be able to have her photos on her nightstand. I know she'd really, really love that," said Rose. The white Cargo Express trailer has the word 'Tucson' written in black on the side. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A pair of recent cyber-attacks on Southern California school districts has shown a new front in the war against computer criminals. Hackers have started to target schools and school districts for ransomware attacks."What they're looking for, ultimately, is money," says Kierk Sanderlin, the Head of Engineering for Check Point, a cyber-security firm.Sanderlin says the hackers will spend months using malware and fishing campaigns to gain access to computer systems. Then, when the time is right, they'll launch the ransomware attack, shutting down the system and demanding a ransom to restore access."They want to impact the environment in such a negative way, at such a critical time, that you will be willing to pay," says Sanderlin.Over the weekend, the San Bernardino School District had its servers shut down by a ransomware attack. And in August, San Dieguito Schools lost the ability for parents to register their students for classes because of an attack.Sanderlin says there have been 50 similar attacks on schools throughout the country in 2019.Sanderlin says the criminals typically want to make money from the ransom. But, he warns they can also use their access to the systems to steal the personal information of students, teachers and families. If they do that, Sanderlin says they can sell the information on the dark web, making people vulnerable to identity theft."All of that intellectual property, identification for student records, social security numbers, anything they can mine and sell on the dark web, they're going to do that," he says.School districts have become easy targets because many of them don't upgrade their cyber security frequently enough. Sanderlin compares it to fighting a modern war with antique weapons."We have to start treating cyber-security as something that's far more important than we have in the past," he says. "We can't be an ostrich sticking our head in the ground anymore. We have to realize this is important and do it the right way."He says parents need to become advocates for better cyber security, urging districts to invest in upgrades to protect their networks. He also advises people to use dark-web monitoring services. Those regularly scan the dark web to see if your personal information is for sale. Both San Bernardino and San Dieguito say their students' information was not stolen in the recent attacks. They're working with police to investigate the issue. 2455
