Daily expenses like buying gas, lunch, and affording child care are some of the immediate impacts employees are facing.10News spoke to several TSA workers at San Diego International Airport off-camera, who said they, too, feel the pinch. One man said he was one of the fortunate people who have family support in case of an emergency. But his co-workers are not so lucky. Another employee told 10News that he is struggling as he enters his third week without a paycheck. Unable to pay his bills, he is charging everything onto new credit cards. "This shutdown, as all others prior, forces employees to use credit cards and other emergency funds, if applicable, in order to make ends meet until a resolution is met," Orozco said. Call-outs at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport increased by 200-300 percent, according to one local TSA official.Some are calling this phenomenon the "Blue flu," in reference to the TSA uniform colors. 10News asked TSA workers here if they were seeing an increased number of call-outs recently. A few people said they had not noticed a drastic difference, but come next week, it may be a different story.While wait times could be affected by an increase in call outs, TSA spokesman Michael Bilello told CNN they don't expect a lapse in security or wait times."Call-outs began over the Holiday period and have increased, but are causing minimal impact given there are 51,739 employees supporting the screening process," Bilello told CNN. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Homeowners in Logan Heights say people are living in RVs parked on their street, leaving behind trash and at times, even dumping human waste. The piles of trash on Logan Avenue include bags, clothes, and paint or plastic food containers. Some of the RV trailers even have cobwebs. A city ordinance says cars are not allowed to park continuously on any public roadway for more than 72 hours. Homeowners say the vehicles are sometimes ticketed and moved for a few days before they come back. In June, the city opened a safe parking lot in Misison Valley for people living out of their RVs. Neighbors say the issue has been reported to the city's Get It Done app multiple times and they've even reached out to their council member, Vivian Moreno.10News reached out to Moreno's office, and a spokesperson said they've reported the issue to the San Diego Police Department. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Former Congressman Darrell Issa is standing behind a political ad that the San Diego chair of his own party has called highly inappropriate.The ad, running on local television, takes aim at Carl DeMaio, a key Issa opponent in the race to replace Duncan Hunter in California's 50th Congressional District. The campaign commercial presents itself as a retort to a recent DeMaio ad that questioned Issa's dedication to President Trump. Issa's ad turns that around. However, the attacks appear to get personal. The ad uses images of two news article headlines in The Hill and The Los Angeles Blade that describe DeMaio as "Gay." It also uses images of MS-13 gang members when talking about DeMaio's stance on a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants (DeMaio said in The Hill article that he supports a path for well-educated immigrants and those who came to the U.S. as children.)San Diego Republican Party Chair Tony Krvaric described the ad as highly inappropriate."We encourage all candidates to stick to the issues," he said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Friends are grieving the loss of a young man killed in a South Bay crash that also sent five teenagers to the hospital. "This is like a bad dream and I want to wake up," said Ivan Nares.Nares says he got a heart-stopping call from his brother Gustavo, 18, from the emergency room Wednesday morning."He said, 'Ivan, Ivan, I need you. His brother was a passenger in a Chrysler 300 packed with teens after a night at an indoor trampoline park.The CHP says around 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, the car was headed south on State Route 905 going at a high rate of speed when it hit the center divide near the Beyer Boulevard off-ramp. The 21-year-old driver was thrown from the car and died at the scene.Three males and two females, ranging from 15- to 19-years-old, were rushed to hospitals. Among them was Nares' brother, who suffered a fractured pelvis and two broken legs. He is uninsured. Gustavo is an amateur boxer and a recent graduate of San Ysidro High. He was in the process of applying to college. Instead, he faces a tough road to recovery."The advice give to all the people, especially young people is don't drive like you are in a 'Fast and Furious' movie. Be cautious. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Effective August 31, some businesses throughout San Diego County are allowed to reopen under newly-issued state guidance.Beginning Monday, places of worship, restaurants, museums, gyms, and hair and nail salons, are among entities that can begin operating indoors.Organizations that plan to reopen under the new guidance are advised to update their safe reopening plan.
