SAN DIEGO (KGTV)-- Today is the peak travel day for the Thanksgiving holiday. AAA expects more than 54 million Americans to travel more than 50 miles from home this season. While many are dreading the drive, others have chosen to take the rails.Gary Green was visiting his friend in San Diego for the last few days. It’s called “California For All.” The campaign is designed to help emergency responders during wildfires and other disasters. California For All campaign is bringing together 600 volunteers. The Community Emergency Response Teams, also known as CERT, is on a mission to help prepare people in the community in case of a natural disaster.CERT members are also trained to assist first responders. “It’s an opportunity for community members to learn basic skills to prepare their community to respond, in case of a major disaster or any event, where the actual true responders can’t get there on time” Dore Bietz. Governor Gavin Newsom and legislators came together to make a million commitment to the campaign. A video message from the governor was played during today’s session. CERT members also help engage diverse and socially vulnerable communities during times of need. “It is very difficult for first responders to come in when there is a language barrier,” says Bietz. CERT is a FEMA- recognized program. Anything more than that, they say they have a Plan B."We often give passengers food packs and water," Irvin said. "If it's necessary, we'll bring in bus services to accommodate passengers."The hope is it never gets to that point. San Diego, Calif. (KGTV) - California is the biggest prizes in the 2020 primary and the remaining Democratic presidential candidates are making a final push to turn out voters in San Diego. Much of their final efforts is focused on getting supporters in the South Bay."We're putting people out in their own neighborhoods, talking to neighbors they already know, making sure they're filling out their absentee ballots," said Joe Biden campaign staffer Jack Hurley.Biden opened an office in the Eastlake neighborhood of Chula Vista shortly after the Iowa Caucus. While Biden does not have as big a staff or infrastructure as other campaigns, they have seen a boost in volunteers since Biden won the South Carolina primary. "I want to see change and I wanted Joe Biden to be that change, and that means I needed to get to work," said Russell, who walked in to the Biden office Monday to volunteer.Bernie Sanders has a large organization in San Diego, based out of its headquarters in Barrio Logan. Monday, teams worked in shifts to train volunteers to canvass the South Bay, focused particularly on San Ysidro. "Our goal is turning out voters that a lot of them haven't actually voted before. So we're mainly focused on turnout at this point in time," one staffmember told the volunteers."It was tough in the beginning," said Sanders volunteer France Hanna about his first efforts at doorknocking. "But I realize as I share my personal Bernie story with all the doors that I knock on that I have a lot of commonalities with people."The Sanders campaign is particularly working to utilize a relatively new law in California that allows ballot delivery, meaning that campaign volunteers can pick up voters' ballots and deliver them to be counted. Because Sanders emphasizes turnout out non-traditional voters, especially young voters and people of color, ballot delivery could provide a boon, making it easier people who perhaps may not have gone to the polls to cast a ballot.The Mike Bloomberg campaign is also working to reach LatinX voters in the South Bay. "One of the main things we understand about the South Bay is that there is the most potential to turn out voters," said staffer Jesus Cardenas. Bloomberg has teams of volunteers knocking on doors and making calls. "It's going to be a little bit crazy, but it's going to be fun," Cardenas said. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A bill requiring California prosecutors to erase or reduce tens of thousands of marijuana criminal convictions was approved by the state Legislature on Wednesday and now awaits Gov. Jerry Brown's signature.When voters passed Proposition 64 in 2016 to allow adult use of marijuana, they also eliminated several pot-related crimes. The proposition also applied retroactively to pot convictions, but provided no mechanism or guidance on how those eligible could erase their convictions or have felonies reduced to misdemeanors.The Senate passed a bill Wednesday that would make that happen.RELATED: What to know about 2018's new marijuana laws in CaliforniaThe bill orders the state Department of Justice to identify eligible cases between 1975 and 2016 and send the results to the appropriate prosecutor.The state DOJ estimates that almost 220,000 cases are eligible for erasure or reduction. San Diego (KGTV) Over 3,000 volunteers worked Pride Weekend to make sure all the events ran smoothly. But one volunteer says a brutal attack in 2016 almost kept him from being out there. He was stabbed and beaten for wearing Pride T-shirt. “I came back because I found my pride again,” says volunteer Chris Keiser. He was one of the many volunteers up early Saturday morning making sure everyone was in place for the large parade. “I make sure everyone has their radios so they can communicate and check out their cart. We kind of rally the people together, get them excited.”But this was the first time in two years Keiser found himself volunteering after struggling to find his excitement again for the pride community. “I was going to volunteer every year after that and I just couldn’t I just couldn’t bring myself to.”In 2016, Keiser was jogging in his Oak Park neighborhood wearing a Pride T-shirt when he was beaten and stabbed on College Drive. His memory is still fuzzy about what happened. “I do remember a car, the derogatory names, then hearing a car again, and then next thing I know I was on the phone calling whoever for help.”Keiser says it was the pride community that helped him through that dark time. This year San Diego Pride is celebrating 50 years since the Stonewall Riots in New York. Keiser says he’s finding his strength in knowing others paved the way for San Diego to have such a celebration. “You made me try to silence myself and take away my pride, but all you did was make me come back stronger, and I’m louder than before.”San Diego Police investigated Keiser’s attack as a hate crime.
