Former ESPN president John Skipper says he abruptly resigned from the network late last year because he was being extorted by a cocaine dealer. In an in-depth interview with The Hollywood Report's James Andrew Miller, Skipper recounted his substance abuse issues and the decision to leave the network.Skipper told Miller that he used cocaine intermittently throughout his professional life. He says the habit began before he joined ESPN in 1997, but maintained that his drug use never interfered with his work, outside of "a missed plane and a few canceled morning appointments."Skipper also said he was "unusually clever" in finding ways to buy cocaine so as not to attract attention to himself. That changed in December, when he says someone he had not dealt with before attempted to extort him for purchasing drugs."It turned out I wasn’t careful this time," Skipper told Miller.Skipper immediately informed Disney CEO Bob Iger of the threat."When I discussed it with Bob, he and I agreed that I had placed the company in an untenable position and as a result, I should resign," Skipper told Miller. On Dec. 18, Skipper shocked ESPN employees by announcing his resignation, citing substance abuse issues. He later checked himself into a facility for therapy for his substance abuse.ESPN named Jimmy Pitaro as Skipper's replacement earlier this month.Read The Hollywood Reporter's full interview here.Alex Hider is a writer for the E.W. Ford decided to move the unveiling of the 2021 Bronco after realizing the original reveal date of July 9 was O.J. Simpson’s birthday. In a statement to E.W. Scripps, the carmaker said that the original July 9 date was purely coincidental.“The previously targeted date of July 9 unintentionally coincided with O.J. Simpson’s birthday," Ford officials said in a statement. "We wanted to be sensitive and respectful of this concern.” 437

Friday marks the final day of increased unemployment benefits passed under the CARES Act — and while millions of Americans are seeking unemployment insurance each week, it will likely be several weeks before lawmakers agree on a replacement.Republicans and Democrats remain far apart in negotiations to extend benefits, despite President Donald Trump's offer on Thursday to sign a short-term extension of the 0 unemployment benefits.“We want a temporary extension of enhanced unemployment benefits,” Trump said at the White House. “This will provide a critical bridge for Americans who lost their jobs to the pandemic through no fault of their own.”However, Democrats rejected Trump's proposal, instead opting to try and pass a more comprehensive bill that would include more stimulus.Earlier this week, Republicans — who are currently broken into groups of more moderate members and deficit hawks — proposed a trillion stimulus plan that would keep increased benefits, but cut them by more than half to 0 a week. The benefits would only last for a few months before states would be required to set up their own unemployment programs.Democrats, on the other hand, favor a trillion stimulus plan, which passed through the House in May. The bill would keep 0 a week unemployment benefits through the end of the year and extend them to gig workers and self-employed people who are out of work.Republicans claim the unemployment benefits incentivize people not to work. Democrats argue that the government must subsidize those at-risk people who feel they cannot work for fear of contracting the virus. 1621

Former Vice President Joe Biden said a candidate's age is a "legitimate" issue in elections -- including if he were to run for president in 2020."I think age is a totally legitimate thing to raise," Biden said during a question and answer session at the Economic Club of Southwestern Michigan's Speaker Series Tuesday. "I think it's totally appropriate for people to look at me and say if I were to run for office again, 'Well God darn you're old.' Well chronologically I am old.""Every voter is entitled to know exactly what kind of shape you're in. You owe it to them. It's a legitimate question and so I think age is relevant," he added.Biden's comments came in response to a question about whether term limits or a mandatory retirement age should be implemented for members of Congress or the Supreme Court.Biden is currently 75 years old, and if he runs for president in 2020, he would be 77 when the caucus and primary contests get underway. The potential Democratic field includes other possible contenders who would be in their seventies come 2020 -- like Sen. Bernie Sanders and Sen. Elizabeth Warren, currently 77 and 69, respectively. They could face off against a crop of younger possible candidates, like Sen. Cory Booker, currently 49, and Sen. Kamala Harris, currently 53.President Donald Trump is currently 72 years old.Biden has said he will make a decision about whether to run for president in 2020 by January. During the event, someone in the crowd shouted, "Run, Joe, Run!""No, no, no!" Biden said in the same cadence, which prompted laughter from the audience. "Thank you. It's very flattering."Biden then grew emotional talking about his family's struggle since the death of his son Beau in 2015."A lot of you have been through a lot tougher times than I and you know when you lose a son or a daughter. It takes some time for the family to sort of be there. We're working through it," he said."I know Beau would want me to run, but honest answer is no man or woman should ask for your vote for president unless they with all your heart and soul can look you in the eye and say 'I promise you all my effort, all my attention, all, all my heart, all of my soul,'" he said. "And I'm not quite sure, I'm not sure quite sure I'm there yet."When some shouted "Jill would be great!" referencing Biden's wife, he responded, "She would! She would! I'd vote for her!"On the issue of term limits and mandatory retirement age, Biden said, "I think it's up to the judgment of the people whether or not the person that holds that office in fact has the capacity to hold the office." 2599

For months, President Donald Trump and Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden have been crisscrossing the country soliciting votes. But there's been one swing state they won't be able to visit — outer space. Thanks to a special law passed in Texas in 1997, NASA astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS) are able to "vote while they float."Astronaut Kate Rubins became the latest NASA official to vote from the outer limits on Thursday. She even created a "voting booth" on the ISS to feel more at home.According to The Washington Post, astronaut John Blaha first raised concerns about an astronaut's extra-terrestrial right to vote in 1996, when he was aboard Russian space station Mir during that year's presidential election. 752
