HARARE, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- The two-day visit to Zimbabwe by Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi starting Thursday is an endorsement of relations between the Southern African country and China, local figures told Xinhua.Former Zimbabwean ambassador to China Chris Mutsvangwa said in an interview on Tuesday that Yang's visit will also boost economic relations between the two countries."The visit of a foreign minister is a big banner announcement to say that relations between Zimbabwe and China are reaching for a new level," he said."This is a visit which will mark a new diplomatic high watermark in Zimbabwe's international relations because to get the visit of an important and emerging super-power like China with such economic clout is a big vote of confidence on the part of Zimbabweans who have been pummeled by sanctions" imposed by the West.Yang, who will make the visit at the invitation of Zimbabwean Foreign Minister Simbarashe Mumbengegwi, is scheduled to meet President Robert Mugabe and other senior government officials.Mutsvangwa said the Chinese veto at the United Nations in 2008 was "a landmark diplomatic decision where it basically saved Zimbabwe from punitive sanctions instigated by an irate and sulky former colonial power.""So, now this visit will give an opportunity for Zimbabweans tofinally thank China for this act. VIENNA, April 12 (Xinhua) -- A protein group has been identified as an "allergy multiplier" that causes food allergy, a symptom that could also accompany other allergies and produce serious consequences, Austrian researchers said Tuesday.The so-called non-specific lipid transfer proteins (nsLTP) are believed to be the causes of food allergy, a research team from the Medical University of Vienna said in a new report.These plant allergens are found not only in many fruits and vegetables, but also in cereals and some types of pollen. Due to their compact structures, they are not degraded in the gastrointestinal tract and can trigger immune reactions that cause severe allergic symptoms, said the report.The researchers believe that with nsLTP identified as an " allergy multiplier," diagnostic and treatment procedures could be adapted and improved.

GENEVA, May 17 (Xinhua) -- Health Ministers from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa met here on Tuesday, to prepare for the BRICS Health Ministerial Meeting which is to be held in Beijing on July 11, 2011.The preparatory discussion was convened on the sidelines of the 64th World Health Assembly, which have gathered health authorities from 193 member states of the World Health Organization (WHO).In a press communique following the discussions, the Health Ministers of the BRICS said that the theme of the Beijing meeting would include, promoting innovation and access to affordable medical products, vaccines and other health technologies, in support of reaching the Millennium Development Goals and addressing other public health challenges.Additional agreement decided that the World Conference on Social Determinants of Health will be held in the Brazilian Capital, Rio de Janeiro, next October, as an important opportunity to discuss the inter-linkages between public health and development, as well as exchange experiences in reducing health inequities within and amongst countries.
