EL CAJON (CNS) - The California Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal traffic collision in the 13500 block of Piping Rock Lane near El Cajon, authorities said today.At least one person has died, according to a dispatcher with the California Highway Patrol's Border Communications Center.The agency was notified of the crash by Heartland Fire & Rescue at 9:45 p.m. Saturday.CHP investigators were still on scene at 12:15 a.m. El Cajon police did not respond to the incident, as it occurred outside the city's boundaries, an El Cajon Police Department dispatcher said.The cause was under investigation. 614

Eight people were injured during a shooting at the Mayfair Mall in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, Friday afternoon, chief of police Barry Weber told reporters. Weber confirmed that seven of the injured were adults, while one teen was among the victims. Weber did not know the extent of their injuries. (KGTV) -- An El Cajon Police officer is recovering after being hit in the head with a hammer during a foot pursuit with a suspect. According to police, the incident happened near West Douglas Avenue and Van Houten Avenue. Police responded the scene after a suspect, later identified as Robert Dille, 30, reportedly shattered several windows at a Jack in the Box while trying to rob an armored truck making a delivery. Once they arrived, officers chased the suspect on foot. During the chase, Dille struck an officer in the head with a hammer after a Taser was ineffective. The officer was taken to the hospital before being treated and released.  711
