SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Small Business Administration Administrator Jovita Carranza visited San Diego to check on America's investment in small businesses."Being here in San Diego and very vibrant market and thousands and thousands of small businesses benefited from the Paycheck Protection Program," Carranza said. One of those businesses is VetPowered and their non-profit Workshops for Warriors, which trains veterans in manufacturing. The company launched in 2008.More than 750 veterans have graduated and 95% of them have been placed in permanent jobs. "The SBA funding we received was a lifeline had we not received that funding we would have had to shut down operations and all the students that were here most of them would become homeless so thanks to these loans not only were we able to continue operations we’ve had two COVID graduations we’ve been able to put almost 100 graduates that I’ve been trained and certified in advanced manufacturing skills into the workforce and I am so thankful for their support," Hernán Luis y Prado, Founder and CEO of VetPowered and Workshops for Warriors.Carranza said negotiations for another round of PPP has been in negotiations for more than two months. She said there is 0 billion left in the fund and there should be more money added before the next round of loans comes out."I am so thankful and so encouraged to hear that so many small businesses applied the flat funds appropriately but that they’re actually planning on growth and adding employees not only replacing them," Carranza said.Carranza hopes to get more money to more small businesses after the election. 1627

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police say they received a call regarding a goat on the loose in the tailgate lot near Petco Park on Sunday.SDPD said a goat was apparently running around the lot sometime before 2 p.m., before the owner of the animal had retrieved the goat and left the area before officers arrived."Officers are responding to reports of a goat running around the area of tailgate lot in downtown. The latest is the owner has the goat and is walking him back to his vehicle saying he was a BAAAAAAAD goat. The owner and his goat left the area prior to police arrival," the department tweeted. The department said a couple of hours later that officers later found the man and his goat elsewhere downtown and learned the goat's name: "Tom Brady." 764

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego State basketball broke into the top five on The Associated Press' Top 25 men's college basketball poll Monday.SDSU jump three spots, ranking fourth behind Kansas, Gonzaga, and No. 1 Baylor. San Diego State also jumped two spots to fourth on USA Today's Coaches Poll. The Aztecs are undefeated (19-0) this season and the only team still without a loss.SDSU's ranking marks several milestones for the program's history:Ties the highest AP Top 25 ranking for the Aztecs ever for the third time. The last No. 4 ranking came when NBA MVP Kawhi Leonard led SDSU to a 20-0 start to a school-best 34-3 record in 2010-2011;SDSU's most points in an AP poll in a single week, with 1,422 points;Tuesday's rank is 24th time SDSU has appeared in the AP Top-10The Aztec's Saturday win over Nevada saw forward Yanni Wetzell rack up 17 points and a career-high 16 rebounds and guard Malachi Flynn tally 14 points of his own.According to the AP, SDSU is the 11th team since 2010-11 to start the season 19-0. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Unified is fast-tracking several security-related upgrades on several schools. The first upgrade started this week at Miramar Ranch Elementary school, where a new, taller perimeter fence was installed. The district made the decision last week to prioritize roughly -million worth of projects.  They will be paid for by a voter-approved bond measure. The plans were already on the district's to-do list, but they now moved up the schedule.A district spokeswoman says it is in response to the climate plaguing classrooms across America, where school safety and security are front and center.  Campus security has been under heavy scrutiny following the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.“Of course we are worried about school security in the wake of all the shootings,” Diane Hunter, a Miramar Ranch Elementary parent said,  “It’s a naughty problem because we want to balance logistics and ease of access for parents and volunteers, but we also want our kids to be safe.  So I’m glad that the school is taking a look at it and making improvements."The list of projects includes adding and upgrading things like fences, door locks and gate, visitor access control, site radios and security cameras.A timeline for the projects in the individual schools was not readily available.  1380

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego State University has instituted new protocols to keep the coronavirus from spreading on campus.Dr. Luke Wood, Vice President of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity, said they hired security to patrol the campus from Thursday through Sunday after hours, document policy violations, and send reports to staff who handle disciplinary action."There are real consequences now of our COVID-19 policies, and that can range from a warning, to suspension to even in extreme cases, expulsion," Wood said.He said they also have a wellness ambassador program they hope to expand to 50 personnel, "so that when students come on campus physically they are being greeted and welcomed to the campus. They're reminded of our policies around wearing face-masks, around social distancing."Wood said he wants to make sure SDSU doesn't join the growing list of colleges with outbreaks."We're doing everything that's within our power to make sure that we don't follow in others' footsteps," he said. "It's demonstrating we take this very seriously."Only a third of students (about 2,600) are living on campus this year, according to Wood. In-person classes have been cut from thousands to 202. The rest of the classes are held online.Caryl Montero-Adams, Director of Student Life and Leadership, says the policies highlight the very real threat the virus still poses on and off campus."There are other real consequences to COVID-19 in and of itself, and we want to ensure that we're focused again on the health and safety of our campus community and that our students are aware of where they fit in with that," said Montero-Adams. 1646
