Kevin Spacey and the man who accuses the actor of groping him may come face to face in a Massachusetts courtroom Monday, in a case that has taken several twists and turns before the criminal trial has even begun. At issue in Monday's pretrial hearing is the cell phone on which the accuser texted his girlfriend and sent a video during the alleged assault. The prosecution says it obtained data from the phone, which it shared with the defense, and then the phone was returned to the man's family. Spacey's defense team wants to examine the phone itself, claiming that exculpatory evidence may have been deleted before it was given to police and prosecutors.Spacey, 59, faces criminal charges of indecent assault and battery in connection to the alleged July 2016 incident. The former "House of Cards" star has pleaded not guilty. He could face up to five years in prison if convicted.Judge Thomas Barrett ruled in June the defense was entitled to inspect the phone. However, the accuser and his family have said they don't have it and don't know where it is.Barrett extended the deadline for turning the phone over until Monday and said that if it's not found, the accuser, his attorney and his mother must appear in court to testify about its whereabouts.Surprise moveMeanwhile, in an abrupt about-face Friday, the alleged victim's lawyer announced that a civil lawsuit filed against Spacey a week earlier had been dropped.Spacey's accuser, who was an 18-year-old busboy at a Nantucket bar at the time of the alleged assault, filed the civil complaint on June 26. In it, the accuser said Spacey bought him "multiple alcoholic beverages" before he then forcibly touched and fondled his genitals -- the same allegations he made in the ongoing criminal case.CNN is not naming the accuser because he is an alleged victim of sexual assault. The accuser's attorney, Mitchell Garabedian, told CNN via email Friday that he and his client voluntarily dropped the lawsuit and that he would have no further comment. The civil lawsuit accused Spacey of explicit sexual behavior and infliction of mental distress. It demanded judgment in an amount to be determined by a jury, including costs, interests and attorney fees. What happened to the phone? The accuser and his mother -- 2276

In the coming days, Instagram users will be getting a bit less info about those in their social network.A number of Instagram users have noticed that the "Following" tab under the mobile app's notification page has disappeared. The "Following" tab showed snippets of activity of the users a person follows. For example, it would show if a person you follow had liked a set of photos marked with the same hashtag, or show if a particular user liked a significant amount of posts from a given account. The feature allowed users to find more accounts and content that he or she might enjoy. But, as anyone who has spent significant time on Instagram can tell you, likes can be revealing.Ever get on Instagram at work or school? Or like an ex's photo without your significant other's knowledge? Technically, all of your followers could see that activity in the "following tab."It was almost an open secret that the "Following" tab was the 945

In recent years, scientists have noticed an increased frequency of tornadoes in the Southeast, carving a deadly path in what's called Dixie Alley. While Tornado Alley in the Great Plains still leads in the number of tornadoes, more are appearing in the South. And tornadoes shifting to this region can take a devastating toll. On Sunday, an EF-4 tornado ripped through Alabama's Lee County killing 23 people and cutting a path of destruction at least 24 miles long. It's not an anomaly that tornadoes appear in the Southeast every year, but they present different vulnerabilities, said Victor Gensini, professor of meteorology at Northern Illinois University."As you move east from Kansas to Mississippi, Georgia, Tennessee, the population density increases rapidly and we also have an issue in the Southeast of more mobile homes," he said. "If you get hit in a mobile home from a tornado, you're much more likely to be killed. You just have a really unique exposure and vulnerability problem."Gensini was co-author on a study that started tracking tornadoes in 1979 and they observed a shift towards the Southeast around 2008.Dixie Alley includes portions of East Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia. Tornado Alley includes the area from central Texas stretching north to Iowa, and from central Kansas and Nebraska east to western Ohio, according to the 1401

Jo Cameron, a 71-year-old Scottish woman, has never needed to take painkillers after seeing the dentist and can eat spicy Scotch bonnet chilis without any discomfort. She thought little of it until she sought treatment for a hip problem at the age of 65. Doctors were astonished to find that she experienced no pain despite severe degeneration in her joint. A year later, she said she felt no pain after undergoing what's typically a very painful operation on her hand for osteoarthritis. Her doctors decided to analyze whether her lack of pain sensitivity was due to genetics and found it was caused by a mutation in a previously unidentified gene."I had no idea until a few years ago that there was anything that unusual about how little pain I feel. I just thought it was normal," Cameron said in a news release. In 828
