SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A five-vehicle pileup at a College Area intersection left two young women severely injured and sent four others drivers to the hospital, police said Thursday.The crash was reported around 9:10 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of 70th Street and El Cajon Boulevard, San Diego police Officer John Buttle said.A 63-year-old man driving a 2016 Mercedes E400 eastbound on El Cajon Boulevard suffered an unknown medical issue and slammed into the back of a 2015 Ford Fusion sitting in the northbound turn lane to 70th Street, Buttle said.The impact pushed both vehicles into the westbound lanes, where they were both struck by three vehicles -- a Nissan Rogue SUV, a BMW and a Honda Civic, the officer said. At that point, the Ford caught fire, leaving two 22-year-old women trapped inside before witnesses pulled them from the car.Both women suffered second- and third-degree burns over 70% of their bodies, along with uncontrolled internal bleeding, Buttle said. They were taken to a hospital for treatment of their injuries, which were considered life-threatening.The Mercedes driver was taken to a hospital for treatment of unknown injuries, Officer Tony Martinez said.The Nissan driver, a 20-year-old woman, the BMW driver, a 63-year-old man, and the Honda driver were taken to local hospitals for treatment of minor injuries, Buttle said.No details about the Honda driver were immediately available. 1427

SAN DIEGO (AP) — The Marine Corps says one of its fighter jets collided in mid-air with another plane during a refueling operation in a remote desert area of Southern California.The pilot ejected and the other aircraft landed safely.Authorities say the F-35B jet collided with a Lockheed Martin KC-130J tanker around 4 p.m. Tuesday. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A group of senators, including California's Dianne Feinstein and Kamala Harris, introduced a bill Thursday to address health, safety and quality-of-life concerns at private military housing around the county, including Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.Feinstein and Harris joined Virginia senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine to introduce the bill. The senators began drafting the legislation after a November 2018 Reuters report detailing substandard and even dangerous living conditions at Lincoln Military Housing's privately owned complexes, including mold spores, water leaks and infestations of rodents and insects.The report also detailed multiple instances of Lincoln's slow and lack of a response to tenants complaining about living conditions. Lincoln Military Housing runs most of Camp Pendleton's 7,900 housing units.``Service members shouldn't have to worry about the health and safety of their families while protecting our country,'' Feinstein said.``Unfortunately, many living in private military housing are dealing with hazardous conditions with little or no recourse."In addition to Lincoln Military Housing's large presence in the military housing market, military members and their families living on a military base like Camp Pendleton lack the same tenant rights as civilians living on private land. Reuters found that tenant rights are generally set by contracts between the military and private housing companies or landlords.Because of this, military base residents can't press local governments to enforce health codes or withhold rent payments until repairs are made.The senators' bill would enable base commanders to withhold housing payments until officials with a housing company inspect a safety or health hazard. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A disheveled man stabbed two strangers within a block of each other Friday in North Park and failed to commandeer the second victim's car, authorities reported.The unidentified assailant -- who looked to be about 30 years old and homeless -- first attacked a 25-year-old pedestrian in the 4200 block of Ohio Street about 8 a.m., stabbing him in the leg and running into a nearby supermarket parking lot, according to San Diego police.A short time later, he tried to steal a 57-year-old man's car near the intersection of Howard Avenue and 30th Street, but when the victim resisted, the assailant stabbed him three or four times in the right arm, then fled on foot to the south, Sgt.
