For the first time, new research is lifting the veil on the people who are buried at Stonehenge.The study was published in the journal Scientific Reports on Thursday.Much of the previous research around the monument in Wiltshire, England, has centered around how or why Stonehenge was built -- not the people buried there or who built it.But studying the human remains at Stonehenge is no easy task. In addition to dating back to 3,000 BC, the remains were also cremated. During the early phase of Stonehenge's history, it largely served as a cemetery.Fortunately, lead study author Christophe Snoeck, post-doctoral researcher at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, combined his passions for archeology and chemical engineering to pioneer developments in archaeological analysis.The results revealed that 40% of the people buried at Stonehenge likely came from west Wales, the suggested origin of the site's smaller bluestones, and they most likely helped transport the stones and build Stonehenge. Signals from the bone analysis suggested that within the last ten years of their lives, these people were not living at Stonehenge nor originally from the area around Stonehenge, known as the Wessex region."Our results are the first one to provide direct evidence on the origin of those buried at Stonehenge, shedding light on the importance of the site in the Neolithic landscape," Snoeck said in an email. 1531

Attorney General William Barr said Wednesday that a controversial Trump administration initiative had netted nearly 1,500 arrests with federal agents' assistance in nine U.S. cities.Speaking from Kansas City, Barr claimed that "Operation Legend" has been successful in combatting rising rates of violent crime across the country.Operation Legend — named in memory of 4-year-old LeGend Taliferrom, who was shot to death in Kansas City earlier this year — was launched in the city in early July. Officials with the Kansas City police department say the murder rate in the city has dropped in the month since federal agents arrived.Among those arrested in connection with the program was a suspect charged with LeGend's murder. The boy's mother attended Wednesday's press conference and thanked Barr for his assistance in LeGend's case.Since its launch in Kansas City, Operation Legend has spread to Chicago, Albuquerque, Cleveland, Detroit, Milwaukee, St. Louis, Memphis and Indianapolis.However, the initiative remains controversial with local leaders. In late July, the mayors of 13 large cities penned an open letter to Barr, Acting Homeland Security Sec. Chad Wolfe and other Trump administration officials, saying they did not wish for federal agents to patrol their streets.Earlier this year, the Trump administration sent federal agents to Portland, Oregon, in an attempt to quell months-long protests in the city. As Tropical Storm Laura began setting its sights on Puerto Rico, and eventually, the Florida coast, Tropical Storm Marco formed late Friday.Marco has top winds of 40 MPH, but is expected to gain strength by the time it reaches the Gulf of Mexico. As of late Friday, however, the storm is not forecast to reach hurricane strength.The storm is then expected to head for the Texas or Louisiana coast.In the meantime, Marco is expected to hit Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula this weekend.Tropical Storm Laura is also headed toward the Gulf of Mexico, but instead of approaching from the South like Marco, Laura is coming from the east.Laura has top winds of 45 MPH as of late Friday. Before reaching the Gulf of Mexico, it is expected to skirt Puerto Rico and Hispaniola and Florida.The combination of Marco and Laura could cause havoc for emergency managers next week.
