Following a hand recount of ballots in Georgia, President-elect Joe Biden maintained a 12,000-vote lead over President Donald Trump. The conclusion of the recount means that Biden is the projected winner of the state and its 16 Electoral College votes, according to the Associated Press. The once Republican stronghold, Georgia went for a Democratic presidential candidate for the first time since 1992. With all 50 states now called, Biden is projected to carry 306 Electoral College votes compared to 232 for Trump.The hand recount of nearly 5 million votes stemmed from an audit required by a new state law and wasn’t in response to any suspected problems with the state’s results or an official recount request. The state has until Friday to certify the results that have been certified and submitted by the counties. The recount added an additional 5,262 ballots that had gone previously uncounted, representing roughly .1% of the overall vote total. In the recount, Trump added a net of 496 votes, coming well short of cutting into Biden's lead.Once the results are certified, the losing campaign can request a recount. 1133

First lady Melania Trump's plane was forced to return to Joint Base Andrews Wednesday after a "mechanical issue" that led to smoke in the cabin.According to the press pool traveling with Trump, about 10 minutes after the plane took off, reporters could see a thin haze of smoke and the smell of something burning. Forget the shirt and shoes; no service for people on horseback at Starbucks in Anthem, Arizona. A Valley girl is frustrated after trying to ride her horse through the drive-thru when the barista said nay. Aspen Cline had seen internet videos of others riding their horses through the Starbucks drive-thru and decided that's what she wanted to do for her birthday. Instead, she and her horse, Scout, were shut down by the barista who apparently wasn't into horsing around. "We weren't given a reason, just, "we can't take your order," said Aspen. "My friend and I were going to get frappuccinos for us and a cup of whipped cream for the horses." A Starbucks spokesperson told us, officially, their drive-through is for cars only. He said that policy is for animal, rider and employee safety. But, he also added that the horses caught the barista off guard and with a little-advanced notice next time they'll find a way to serve all creatures."We support Starbucks because they're very accepting," said Tandy Cline, Aspen's mom. "So we were kind of disappointed we got thrown to the side from such a great company."  Tandy said they would definitely be reaching back out to Starbucks to see if they can arrange a better experience for Aspen. 1297

For generations, in Lincoln, Nebraska, the community has thrived on the return of the University of Nebraska’s legendary football team each fall.“Nebraska football, not just for Lincoln, but for Nebraska is a huge thing,” said Joey Rupp, who owns a store that sells all things Huskers.But if 2020 has proven anything, it’s that few things are promised.“When this first all started in March, we really saw a decline. We’ve seen a decline each month,” Rupp said.Rupp manages Best of Big Red, which is located in Lincoln’s Haymarket district, an area within walking distance of Nebraska’s Memorial Stadium filled with bars, shops, and restaurants.Rupp typically has a lot riding on college football season.A Nebraska home game can draw around 150,000 people to town.“Football season probably generates about 75 percent revenue for the year,” Rupp said.2020 has been different.Coronavirus cut the Nebraska Cornhuskers' home games from the typical seven to four. That includes bars and restaurants.Bar owner Matt Taylor says his bar has been playing old, classic Nebraska games on TV since real Cornhusker games won’t start until Oct. 24.“Normally, I think it’s the best place to watch a game including the stadium,” Taylor said of his bar Tavern on the Square.Taylor loves owning his bar, but love is a tough word for the bar business in 2020."I usually love my job, but this year has not been very fun,” Taylor said.He says while it's good there will be a football season, it's unclear what the financials will look like.“It definitely helps but it won’t be a normal game day.
