(KGTV) — San Diego's airport is considered the best in the nation, according to a recent study released by travel website The Points Guy.San Diego International Airport took the top spot on the website's annual "Best and Worst US Airports" analysis of the 50 busiest airports in America. Looking at delay times, commute, and amenities, the website considered San Diego the best thanks to its, "healthy dose of amenities, superior record of on-time flights and incredibly convenient location."San Diego Airport's 30-plus dining options, including favorites like Stone Brewing, Pannikin Coffee & Tea, and Phil's BBQ, boosted the location past last year's winner, Phoenix Sky Harbor, which was hit with a runway closing between January and February last year.RELATED: UC San Diego ranks among the best universities in the U.S., worldAccording to the FAA's latest data from 2017, San Diego International's average gate arrival delay was 3.7 minutes over an average of 807 flights in and out of the airport daily. In 2016, the FAA held San Diego as the 27th busiest airport in terms of passenger traffic with more than 20.7 million.Upon the ranking, San Diego Airport tweeted, "We’re thrilled to be ranked No. 1 U.S. Airport by [The Points Guy]! As excited as we are, we know there's work to be done on improving our Terminal 1 experience. That’s why we've started moving forward with plans to replace Terminal 1."Terminal 1 has been a stickler for many who travel through the region. The entry way to San Diego, opened in 1967, served more than 12 million travelers last year, the airport says.RELATED: Scripps La Jolla Hospitals listed as best in San Diego regionThe airport's planned revamp of Terminal 1 includes demolishing the current terminal and replacing it with a new three-level facility with 30 gates and possible commercial development, according to the airport's 2018 drafted plans.Portland International, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International, and Sacramento International airports rounded our the top five in the list.Among the worst airports were Florida's Southwest Florida International, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International, and Orlando International airports; Detroit Metropolitan Wayne, and Chicago Midway airports. 2250

(KGTV) — Texas Border Patrol agents found themselves caring for an 18-month-old child after her mother was taken to the hospital after crossing the border illegally. The infant was taken into Border Patrol's care on Tuesday after a pregnant Honduran woman traveling with the girl was caught crossing the border, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The woman was experiencing abdominal pain and taken to Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center. While the mother received care, agents looked after the child at Uvalde Border Patrol Station until her mother was released.“I am proud of the agents and staff who continue to show great compassion during this humanitarian crisis on our southern border,” Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Felix Chavez said in a release. “However, our agents are continually pulled from their enforcement duties to watch over people at hospitals, and in this case a child while her mother was receiving care.”The mother was eventually allowed to leave from the hospital and reunited with her child, CBP said. They were both then processed by CBP officials. 1098

(KGTV) -- President Trump is threatening to take education money away from California schools.Trump said Sunday that the Department of Education was investigating allegations that California schools incorporate a curriculum based on the controversial New York Times 1619 Project.Trump warned that institutions that teach this alternative narrative of American history could lose federal funding. The NYT collection reframes American history around August 1619, when the first slave ship arrived on America's shores. The Times' 1619 project won a Pulitzer Prize for commentary, and the Pulitzer Center has since developed a package that allows schools to teach the project’s lessons.California State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond released a statement in response to the president's threat to withhold funding, calling it a threat to divide the country:"President Trump’s latest announcement is a petty and disgraceful threat designed to distract and further divide our country at a time when we need true leadership that can unite us. California’s educators should feel empowered to lead courageous conversations with their students about the history of race and racism in our country—not worry if their school will lose funding. At the California Department of Education, we will continue to encourage school districts to talk about racism and unconscious bias in all forms. That includes building training programs to help our 10,000 schools address the impacts of implicit bias and race in our schools. We are also developing a first-in-the-nation statewide ethnic studies model curriculum that all of our school districts can use as a guide for classroom instruction that will shine a long-overdue light on the contributions of people of color. This is the kind of work our president is sadly trying to derail, yet is so critical to moving forward and healing from racial injustice. It’s time for the president to stop stoking racial divisions for political gain.”Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton, a Republican, has introduced legislation that would prevent schools from teaching the curriculum. The legislation titled the Saving American History Act of 2020 would prohibit the use of federal funds to teach the 1619 Project by K-12 schools or school districts.Schools that teach the 1619 Project would also be ineligible for federal professional-development grants. The legislation appears unlikely to gain any significant traction in the Senate but stands as a way for Cotton to send a message. 2516

Based on credible information, the City believes these large gatherings will continue to occur. The extension of the curfew will help in keeping the community of Santee safe while protecting our residents and local businesses."Monday night, San Diego Sheriff's Department says that two people were arrested after allegedly pointing a gun at a group of people gathered at the intersection of Cuyamaca Street and Mission Gorge Road.SDSO said a woman pointed a handgun at the group, before a traffic deputy spotted the reported vehicle and stopped the driver. Witnesses positively identified the woman in a curb-side lineup, and the woman and driver were both arrested after a semi-automatic weapon and two magazines were found in the vehicle, SDSO said.Poway, which had a curfew Sunday and Monday nights, had no plans for a curfew Tuesday night, Mayor Steve Vaus tweeted Wednesday. The cities has first enacted curfews after Saturday night saw instances of looting, rioting, and vandalism in La Mesa following demonstrations at La Mesa Police Department against police violence. 2490
