BRASILIA, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- Brazil's Foreign Ministry issued a statement late Tuesday, expressing the government's regret over the tragedy caused by mudslides in northwest China's Gansu province."The Brazilian government learned with deep regret of the avalanches" that killed at least 1,117 people, with 627 missing in China's Gansu province, the statement said.Brazil also expressed its solidarity with the Chinese government and people, offering condolences to the families of the victims.The devastating landslide, which occurred Saturday in Zhouqu City, Gansu province, also destroyed numerous houses and buildings.So far, a total of 567 survivors have received treatment while 64 seriously injured have been hospitalized, according to the provincial civil affairs bureau.

He said innovation is the lifeblood of a company.He also visited a tractor manufacturing plant and a bearing producing company, both enjoying rapid growth thanks to restructuring. ZHOUQU, Gansu, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- Rescuers were busy searching a possible survivor in a damaged building Wednesday night after they were told cries for help were heard from the building in a mudslide-hit town in northwest China.Zhang Guiquan, an army officer, told Xinhua some residents of Zhouqu County of Gansu Province heard cries from the partially-collapsed building near the Bailong River that overflowed after being blocked by mudslides.About 40 soldiers braving heavy rains and potential mudslides were detecting signs of life near the building after receiving the report from the residents, Zhang said.Hopes of finding any survivors faded as the thunderstorms battered the county seat of Zhouqu Wednesday night, nearly four days after the mudslides hit the town, leaving 1,117 people dead and 627 missing.
