SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The two most popular baby names in San Diego County in 2018 were Liam and Emma, the county Health and Human Services Agency announced today.Emma led all other names with 264. Among girl names, Olivia was second with 235, according to the county, with Mia, Isabella, Camila, Sophia, Sofia, Victoria, Mila and Charlotte rounding out the top 10.Liam led all boys' names with 242, followed by Noah at 202. Other top 10 boy names were Sebastian, Mateo, Benjamin, Daniel, Ethan, Oliver, Alexander and Logan.It was the third consecutive year in which Emma led all girls' names and the second consecutive year that Liam led among boys. The culprit was the end piece that plugs into the computer. Getting it repaired could have cost him between and 0, so Warth tried to fix it himself - and failed.In early September, Warth saw a notice for a fixit clinic at a Goodwill store in Serra Mesa, organized by the nonprofit Zero Waste San Diego. For the last four years, the group has been offering free, monthly clinics to help fix the broken: from blenders and barbecues, to lamps and fans.Fixit volunteer Michael Gleason joined the group after he retired. "When we fix someone's lamp and it lights up and the owner's face lights up.  That's the reward for me," said Gleason.He says his success rate is about 50%. 1036

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A 105-year-old World War II veteran is set to receive his college diploma 83 years after graduating.Bill Vogt, who was one of the first students to set foot on San Diego State University's campus after it opened in 1931, will receive his diploma in commerce retro-dated to Feb. 1, 1935, on Thursday.Vogt graduated from SDSU mid-year in 1935 but never got a printed diploma. He is the last remaining SDSU student to have attended classes at the university's old campus in University Heights, according to the school.The special presentation comes after Vogt elected to become a lifetime member of SDSU Alumni in May, a special alumni program offered by the university. He's also believed to be the oldest person ever to become an Alumni lifetime member, the school added.The WWII veteran served in the US Navy, and also served in the Korea and Vietnam wars. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A graduate program at the University of San Diego that teaches peacebuilding will evaluate whether or not to send students back to Culiacán, Mexico. The concern comes after Thursday's bloody battle involving Mexican federal troops and the son of notorious drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman.The USD Kroc School's Trans-Border Institute has been regularly taking graduate students to Culiacán for the last five years, offering seminars and certificate programs in peacebuilding that have had an impact on the region, said program director Ev Meade."It's one of the only states in Mexico that's actually improved with respect to violence and was on the upswing until 3:30 yesterday afternoon and now all bets are off," Meade said in an interview.Meade was scheduled to speak at a conference on Friday but had to cancel the trip abruptly when cartel shooters laid siege to the city.The incident began when members of the Mexican National Guard patrolling a neighborhood in Culiacan and were ambushed by members of the Sinaloa drug cartel. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A father and daughter were taken to the hospital for injuries related to an apartment fire in Carmel Valley Tuesday afternoon. According to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, firefighters were called to an apartment complex on the 12000 block of Torrey Bluff Drive around 4:30 p.m. The department says the man was taken to the hospital with burns to his hands and face while his daughter was hospitalized for smoke inhalation. The fire was reportedly contained to only one room of the apartment. Preliminary investigations revealed that the blaze may have been started by some sort of device the father was using to smoke.
