His frontrunner status has been brought into question thanks to the events of the last three days. Biden’s surge in South Carolina, plus the sudden withdrawal of several other candidates, could give Biden a boost to what was a slumping campaign. Biden’s campaign has struggled to raise money to have the sort of advertising that Bloomberg and Sanders have. But with several major endorsements, Biden has seen his share of free advertising through news reports and buzz around the campaign. Bloomberg’s entrySuper Tuesday marks the first time Bloomberg will be competing for votes. He has spent some of his fortune to put his message before voters. For instance, on Sunday during primetime, he took out advertising on several major networks to talk about the coronavirus. He also purchased ad time during the Super Bowl. But Bloomberg also did not see much of a boost coming out of two debates, his first of which involved attacks from Warren about his handling of non-disclosure agreements with his employees. What polling saysRecent polls have Sanders ahead nationally, and in leading in many Super Tuesday states including Texas and California. A caveat though is those polls were conducted before Saturday, and how Buttigieg, Klobuchar and Steyer voters sway could determine who wins the majority of delegates on Super Tuesday. How it could play outSuper Tuesday could give some clarity as to whether the race will be decided during the primary season, or at the Democratic National Convention in July. A candidate is required to win 1991 pledged delegates going into the convention. Failure to win a majority of delegates will result in hundreds of so-called “Super Delegates” to cast a ballot during a second round of voting. How likely of a scenario is a brokered convention? Election forecast site 538 gives the odds of a brokered convention at 2 out of 3. But the site also gives both Sanders and Biden a one in six chance to win the nomination outright. Why 15% matters?In order to gain delegates from a state, earning 15% of the vote is the minimum threshold. Three Gulf Coast states were placed under a Tropical Storm Warning on Friday as Tropical Storm Cristobal is setting its sights for the US late Sunday. According the National Hurricane Center, Cristobal is a minimal tropical storm along the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico with top winds of 40 MPH. The slow-moving storm has dumped heavy rain over the Yucatan Peninsula this week.After stalling out over the Yucatan Peninsula, the National Hurricane Center projects the storm will move across the Gulf of Mexico this weekend before coming ashore late Sunday. Parts of the Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama coast are under a Tropical Storm Watch.The Atlantic Hurricane Season is off to its most active start in recorded history. Cristobal is already the third named storm of 2020. No other hurricane season has had three named storms this early in the year. Most major projections are calling for an abnormally busy hurricane season in the Atlantic. The storm is forecast to remain a tropical storm through landfall, although the National Hurricane Center expects Cristobal to strengthen into a strong tropical storm by landfall. Among the locations under a Tropical Storm Warning is New Orleans, which is one of the most susceptible cities to flooding in the US. Louisiana Gov. There is an urgent need for more healthcare workers nationwide.Recruiting firm NuWest Group is working to find 200 nurses before the end of this week. Specifically, they want intensive care unit (ICU) nurses who will travel to the hardest hit areas, like New York City.“What all these facilities are gearing up for is this middle of April timeline, so the big rush to get these nurses to where they need to be before the peak hits,” said Mona Veiseh, President of NuWest Group’s Healthcare Division. NuWest Group says it wants to speed-up nurses becoming licensed to work in other states. They did this in Washington state. New York is already willing to look at any licensure across the country.Nurses are being paid more incentives to work where the greatest need is. Mona Veiseh says the pay rates for ICU nurses and registered respiratory technicians are the highest she's seen in her 14 years in the business. She's also seeing many nurses already answering the call to go where there is need.“I have seen entire units lend groups of ICU nurses to other units across the country trying to get the nurses to where the outbreaks are the most significant,” said Veiseh.
