BEIJING, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has reiterated his country's support for the Copenhagen Accord and China's commitments to addressing climate change.In separate replies to letters from Danish Prime Minister Lars Loekke Rasmussen and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Wen said the Copenhagen Accord resulting from the UN climate change conference in the Danish capital last year laid the foundation for advancing international cooperation on climate change and pointed the direction for future negotiations.The document reflected the political will of all parties to actively tackle climate change, upheld the dual-track negotiating mechanism of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and its Kyoto Protocol, and reaffirmed the principle of "common but differentiated responsibilities" for developed and developing countries, Wen wrote in the letters dated Friday.He said China would do its best to honor its commitments on climate change, including a reduction of carbon dioxide emission intensity per unit of GDP by 40 to 45 percent by 2020 against 2005 levels, an increase to 15 percent of non-fossil fuels in the country's total primary energy mix by 2020, and an increase of 40 million hectares of forest and 1.3 billion cubic meters of forest volume by 2020 from 2005 levels.Wen said China will continue to play an active and constructive role and work jointly with the international community for a meaningful conclusion of the Bali Roadmap negotiations at the Mexico climate talks with a comprehensive, effective and binding outcome that will reinforce the implementation of the convention and the protocol.

BEIJING, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- China's exports may grow by 8 percent in 2010 but problems still existed with getting exports back to pre-crisis levels, according to a statement posted Monday on the website of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), quoting minister Li Yizhong.It was unlikely for China's exports to recover to pre-crisis levels in the short-term, Li said during a Sunday meeting attended by MIIT officials, attributing the slow rebound to rising international protectionism and the fact that Chinese manufacturers relied too much on overseas markets.The 8-percent growth forecast was still far below 2008's 17.2-percent increase, according to customs data.Despite overtaking Germany as the world's largest exporter, China saw its exports contract 16 percent year-on-year in 2009 as overseas demand slumped.Exports in January this year grew 21 percent on lower comparison bases a year ago due to the global economic downturn and less working days as the Lunar New Year holiday fell in January last year, said the General Administration of Customs earlier this month.Li also stressed that China should keep the yuan stable in a speech addressing the current domestic economic situation during the meeting, as international pressure on China to strengthen the yuan was intensified.

BEIJING, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- China and Vietnam held a reception in Beijing on Friday to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties.     Chen Haosu, president of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, said China and Vietnam were friendly neighbors, which had frequent high-level visits, broad trade and economic cooperation, and cultural exchanges.     Chen said the establishment of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area (FTA) on Jan. 1, 2010 will further boost the mutually-beneficial cooperation between China and Vietnam. BEIJING, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- Chinese police had cracked 210 online gambling crimes and arrested 918 suspects in the 13 days ending Feb. 20, an official with the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) said Wednesday.Gu Jian, vice director of the bureau of cyber security under the ministry, said the ministry also cracked another 122 less severe cases and punished 351 people in the same period.He did not provide further details about the cases.Eight Party departments, government ministries and financial regulatory bodies including the MPS and the People's Bank of China, jointly launched a seven-month-long nationwide campaign to curb online gambling on Feb. 8.The campaign, according to an earlier statement from the MPS, targets "major and severe cases, and would arrest domestic and foreign groups that organize online gambling and severely punish the offenders."Online gambling has seriously disturbed social and economic order, and has drawn strong complaints from the public, Gu said.
