(KGTV) — Homeowners in east Chula Vista are hoping a meeting with police and city leaders will address a number of crime concerns in the area.The meeting started with an idea by Josh Roberts. Roberts lives in the community and was tired of seeing people complaining and reporting crime on Facebook instead of directly to the police department. According to Crimemapping, there were 44 crimes reported from July 5 to August 1 in a two mile radius in the 91915 zip code. The crimes range from burglaries to vehicle thefts to assault. REPORT: Chula Vista's rapid growth poses major challenges to public safety, trafficHowever, last December Wallet Hub ranked Chula Vista the safest city in the county and the third safest in the state. Those are all the ways the Sweetwater Union High School District is being put on blast by a new analysis by the Fiscal Crisis and Management Assistance Team. In a review of the district’s budget woes, the team's CEO Michael Fine presented Sweetwater’s school board with details on how the district ended up in its dire financial situation.Fine said the district has mismanaged its money for many years, even suggesting that specific accounting errors were “intentional” and part of a “cover up.”The report also found that the district didn’t comply with public disclosure requirements. So what does the future look like? According to the analysis, the district is projected to keep spending at a deficit at least through 2021. RELATED: Sweetwater Union High School District faces potential fraud investigationAccording to the report, a financial projection shows an expected .4 million deficit in the 2019-2020 school year and a .6 million deficit in 2020-2021. The board has yet to approve a plan to fix deficit spending. What’s more, the report found that the county doesn’t have access to the district’s financial system, blocking access to oversight.The report also found that the district doesn't have controls in place that limit access to its financial system. In fact, Fine found that a single employee has "complete access to cash between funds and is given complete access to the county treasury district accounts." It's unclear whether or not that employee has the ability to move money outside the treasury accounts. After action is taken against the employee, such as the employee being terminated, the district doesn't verify that that employee's access to financial systems is suspended. Fine suggested the Sweetwater District can do the following to begin the process of climbing out of debt:1. "We want them to become lovers of books.”CVESD schools are working to find sources of reading level-appropriate books. They have developed partnerships with civic organizations, such as Lions and Rotary Clubs, as well as getting donations from UC San Diego. Chopped romaine lettuce grown in the Yuma, Arizona, area is to blame for a multistate E. coli outbreak, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Friday."At this time, no common grower, supplier, distributor, or brand has been identified," the CDC said.So far 35 cases of E. coli illness in 11 states have been reported and linked to the outbreak. The earliest symptoms began on March 22. Twenty-two of the ill individuals have been hospitalized. Three of those patients developed a type of kidney failure associated with an E. coli illness called hemolytic uremic syndrome, which can be life-threatening.Symptoms of E. coli typically begin two to eight days after consuming the bacteria, although most patients become ill three or four days after consumption. Symptoms include severe stomach cramps, diarrhea and vomiting. Most people recover in five to seven days. Those most at risk for E. coli illness include the very young, the very old and individuals with compromised immune systems.Health officials warned the public to stay away from chopped romaine lettuce. "Consumers anywhere in the United States who have store-bought chopped romaine lettuce at home, including salads and salad mixes containing chopped romaine lettuce, should not eat it and should throw it away, even if some of it was eaten and no one has gotten sick. If you do not know if the lettuce is romaine, do not eat it and throw it away," the CDC said.Restaurants and stores are advised not to serve or sell chopped romaine lettuce.In addition, the agency recommends asking grocery stores and restaurants to confirm their chopped romaine is not from Yuma.The advice is based on interviews with 28 of the ill individuals in which 93% of them reported consuming romaine lettuce within the week they began feeling sick."Most people reported eating a salad at a restaurant, and romaine lettuce was the only common ingredient identified among the salads eaten.
