DETROIT — Insulin is the difference between life and death for people with Type 1 diabetes. They say they are tired of watching the cost of the drug continue to increase in the United States. WXYZ went to Jillian Rippolone’s home as she met with diabetics. They spoke about their struggles getting the insulin they need. It's a struggle Rippolone first experienced when, as a child, her parents lost their health insurance. “We were turned away because we didn’t have the money at the time to afford our insulin, which is this little bottle right here," she said. "This was 0 in the '90s. I needed three of them.”Rippolone says she feared for her life as her parents worked to get the money needed. Now, she says the situation is worse for many patients because the cost of insulin has increased in the United States. “For my 30 day supply, it is ,020,” Rippolone said. Michele Busticker, a woman meeting with other diabetics at Rippolone’s home, said she thought she was covered because she had health insurance. Then she dropped a vile on the floor. Insurance wouldn't cover a replacement.“I had to actually admit myself to the emergency room to get insulin to survive,” Busticker said. Mike Cowan says he turned to Rippolone for help when an Uber passenger stole his medicine as he drove.“Insurance isn’t going to make up for that, so I had to seek it out on the black market,” Cowan said. The black market he turned to is a vast network of people who offer insulin online. Rippolone is a leader in it. “Because when there is a diabetic in need you get it. Because if you don’t get insulin you are going to die,” Rippolone said.Diabetics use different amounts of insulin each month, based on their blood sugar. Rippolone runs a 1748

Despite the rise of streaming services like Netflix, going to the movies is still a billion dollar business in America. COVID-19 has closed the doors of theaters across the nation, but as things start to reopen, some theaters are prepping for incoming changes. The Ruth Sokolof Theater in Omaha was getting ready for a busy summer, but thanks to the pandemic they were dealt a plot twist. “Our priority is and will continue to be reopening when it’s safe and appropriate to do so,” said Casey Logan, Deputy Director of Film Streams.Their doors have been shut since early March, and with so many seats close together, things will definitely look different when the show goes on.“A checkerboard style seating where there’s groups of seating all with six feet or more apart so that there is that distance between groups in the theaters,” said Logan. He says certain events like one-time screenings with a visiting filmmaker that brings hundreds of people won’t be presented the same or maybe, not at all. “We’re just expected that there would be events that in normal times that we would be presenting that we won’t be able to present in the months ahead,” said Logan.Limited crowd size and social distancing are the two big changes, but there’s other things theaters should consider.“You don’t give the same seat to two consecutive shows and in-between screenings you have to somehow sanitize the theater,” said Dr. Phani Tej Adidam, Chair & Professor of Marketing of Entrepreneurship at UNO.He adds moviegoers should be part of a loyalty program for contact tracing purposes.“If something happens they should have the ability to trace all the people who came in and all the people they were in contact with,” said Adidam.Theaters may struggle with content as well, as summer blockbusters continue to be delayed. Logan says it may take time, but he’s confident the industry will bounce back.“I think people miss that experience of coming to cinemas, we’re certainly hearing from a lot of people that are looking forward to the day when we reopen so that they can have those experiences again,” said Logan. He also says changes to concessions will also be important to limit person to person interaction, and that buying tickets online before the show, is something movie goers should take advantage of. 2313

CINCINNATI — It's your right as an American to give people the finger, even if the recipient of your flipped bird is a police officer, a federal appeals court ruled this week. The case centered around Debra Cruise-Gulyas, a Michigan woman who displayed her middle finger to a police officer who had stopped her for speeding and written her a ticket for a lesser violation in 2017.The officer, Matthew Minard, then stopped the woman again less than 100 yards away and amended the ticket to a speeding violation.Cruise-Gulyas later sued Minard, alleging that he violated her constitutional rights by pulling her over the second time. The case eventually made its way to the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati, and a panel of judges ruled on Wednesday that stopping Cruise-Gulyas because of the gesture was a violation of her First Amendment rights."Fits of rudeness or lack of gratitude may violate the Golden Rule," Judge Jeffrey S. Sutton wrote. "But that doesn't make them illegal or for that matter punishable or for that matter grounds for a seizure."Cruise-Gulyas hadn't done anything illegal to prompt the second stop, the judges ruled."Minard should have known better here," Sutton wrote. 1214
