DETROIT (AP) — Korean automakers Hyundai and Kia are recalling over 591,000 vehicles in the U.S. to fix a brake fluid leak that could cause engine fires. The recalls cover more than 440,000 Kia Optima midsize sedans from 2013 through 2015 and Kia Sorento SUVs from 2014 and 2015. Also covered are 151,000 Hyundai Santa Fe SUVs from 2013 to 2015. The affiliated automakers say brake fluid can leak inside a hydraulic control unit for the anti-lock brakes, possibly causing an electrical short that can lead to fires. Kia’s recall will start Oct. 15, while Hyundai’s will start Oct. 23. Dealers for both companies will inspect the control units for leaks and replace them if needed at no cost to owners. 709

DEL MAR, CA (KGTV) -- From the starting line to the finish line, opening day to the final race of the season, the Del Mar racetrack prides itself on injury-free races. And with the Summer 2020 season having just wrapped up, the track was ranked as the safest racetrack in the country for the third straight year."It didn't come easily," says Del Mar Thoroughbred Club President Joe Harper. "A few years ago we just woke up to the fact that these horse injuries were climbing, and we had to figure out what was going on."So four years ago, they decided to make some changes. All in the hopes of making the sport safer for the horses, and the jockeys. And it all started with dissecting the track."We found the best guy in the world, the best dirt guy there is, and it was Dennis Moore. He took the track completely apart and told us there were a few problems. We knew it would cost a lot of money, but I said spend all you want."Joe says they also stepped up the evaluations on every racehorse. And for a summer racing season, that means close to 2,000."We go back through our databases, and find what this horses have been doing, where they have been, and how they have been training."The track has also increased the number of veterinarians at the track."In the morning during workouts we've hired more vets to come in and watch the horses. We also have veterinarians go in and look at the horses in the stalls, and the receiving barns. There are vets everywhere."This past season, they had to euthanize one horse injured in a race, as well as two other horses injured while training. "What we're really looking for is zero but compared to where we were, and compared to other tracks, for the last three years we've been the safest track in North America." 1767

(CNS) -- Racing is set to resume at Del Mar Friday after three racing dates were canceled because 15 jockeys tested positive for the coronavirus.The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club responded to the positive tests that wiped out racing from July 17-19 by instituting new travel restrictions to include only permitting jockeys based in California to ride and prohibiting all jockeys who leave the track to ride elsewhere from returning to Del Mar for the remainder of the summer racing season.Del Mar also re-configured and expanded its jockeys' quarters, including moving some of the functions that normally take place in the jockeys' room to an adjacent area.Racing will be held Monday to make up for one of the canceled days. The other two lost days will be made up later in the season, on dates to be determined, said Tom Robbins, Del Mar Thoroughbred Club executive vice president for racing.Many of the races that had been scheduled for last weekend have been shifted to this weekend. DENVER — In the wake of the Black Lives Matter Movement and calls to end systemic racism, many have called on white people to call out discrimination and harassment. A Denver woman says she did just that when she recorded a white woman following and questioning a Black man in a neighborhood near Cranmer Park.Beth, who did not want to be identified by her last name, said she recorded the interaction on Sunday evening and shared it on social media. The video has been viewed thousands of times.The video shows a white woman trailing a Black man walking in a Denver-area neighborhood and asking him questions about a picture. The man asked the woman why she was interrogating him, and the woman later loses her temper."You f**khead, get out of here," the woman said.At one point, Beth interjected and told the woman to leave the man alone."He's not bothering you," she said.Beth said the woman was harassing the man, which is why she recorded the encounter."I just want people to know that it's happening," Beth said. "I don't want people to have an excuse for ignorance anymore. Racism is still real, it's still everywhere, and I'm a white person with a camera, so when I see it, I have to call it out."The woman in the video did not wish to give an interview on camera or be identified, but she told Scripps station KMGH in Denver that she saw the man take several pictures of her home, and was worried they could be used for a crime. When asked if she would have reacted differently if a white person were taking photos, the woman said race didn't play a role in her questioning. She said she just wanted to know why the man took pictures of her home.During the confrontation, the man began to walk away, but the woman continued to follow him. He finally told the woman that he did not want to talk with her and said, "Have a nice day."Neighborhood resident Matt Tedeschi has lived in the area most of his life and walks his dog in the area."(I'm) shocked that not everyone is as accepting as they should be, just for someone walking down the street and question them when they have no right to question them like that," Tedeschi said.The woman in the video claims she had every right to question why the man took pictures of her home. Beth argued that it's a beautiful neighborhood and that photos are common."He is in a public space, he took a picture; people do that all the time," Beth said. "It's a movement right now where we need to prove that Black people are harassed for no good reason. It's a time where we need to have evidence to back up what we are saying."Beth said she spoke with the man after the encounter, and he asked her if he was close to Trader Joe's. She asked if he was OK.She said he told her, "I'm OK. DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) -- Lifeguards in Del Mar urged caution Tuesday evening after several young white sharks were spotted off the coast. According to the city, lifeguards spotted a juvenile shark Monday off 29th Street and again Tuesday off 15th Street. Specific times weren't mentioned by the city in a news release. The city says neither shark approached the shore or showed aggressive behavior. “Shark experts told lifeguards there is no cause for concern,” the city said. City officials say advisory signs posted Tuesday will remain in place for 24 hours. “Coastal waters in Southern California are a known nursery habitat for white sharks, according the Shark Lab, which studies the physiological and behavioral ecology of marine animals and the effect of human activity on the ocean,” the city added. 818
