CHOLLAS VIEW (KGTV) - A short pursuit ended in a crash near Gompers Preparatory School Saturday night.The pursuit started around 6:45 p.m. at 4700 Castana Street in Chollas View, police said. The suspect was wanted for speeding when they took off. The pursuit ended a few minutes later when the suspect crashed less than a mile away into a railing at Gompers Preparatory School. The suspect was arrested. No one was injured. Gompers Preparatory School is a public charter school that operates in cooperation with the University of California, San Diego.   588

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Police are searching for the suspects accused of stabbing a 15-year-old to death as he tried to defend his friend at a Chula Vista birthday party in late January. According to police, the stabbing took place on January 31 on the 900 block of Maria Way in Chula Vista. Police say an argument broke out between two teenagers. The argument later turned physical and, as the 15-year-old -- identified by friends as Devin Griffiths -- tried to help a friend being attacked by several men, he was stabbed in the upper body, according to police. According to police, he “passed away with his family at his side.”Police say the suspect group is believed to consist of eight to 15 men and women between the ages of 17 and 20. This year, McMullen agreed to talk by phone, saying that the company will see some permanent changes from the global pandemic that caused food shortages, surging revenue, binge buying and changes in consumer spending habits.Kroger's local employment increased 33% to 20,000 since the pandemic began, while the company hired 100,000 people nationwide.McMullen expects Kroger’s total employment — which peaked at 560,000 — to remain above 500,000 going forward. He also expects digital sales to remain at higher levels than the company achieved prior to COVID-19.And he believes the company will benefit from a permanent shift toward eating at home.“What we’re finding is people enjoy cooking more than they thought they would — at least, that’s what they’re telling us,” McMullen said. “They especially enjoy doing it with their kids, because it gives you a reason to spend time together. He suffered body aches, followed by a headache, fever, and a positive COVID-19 test. More than a week later, he sent a message to his wife, Wil, in the next room."He texted me that he was having trouble breathing," said Wil.She rushed him to the hospital. Days later, he suffered a stroke and was placed on a ventilator. Malacas, 45, passed away on July 11, leaving behind a wife, a grown son, and a 13-year-old daughter the couple adopted in December."He was my soulmate ... really said for me and my kids," said Wil.Wil's life is hardly the only one impacted. A Los Angeles Times headline recently noted that Filipinos are dying of COVID-19 at an "alarming rate." According to the report, data compiled reveals Filipino Americans account for more than 35% of COVID-19 deaths in the state's Asian population. Filipino Americans account for about a quarter of Asian Americans in the state.As for their mortality rate, that registered at a staggering 40% in Southern California, although the sample size is only about 50 cases and 19 deaths.JoAnn Fields, who co-chairs a local Filipino COVID-19 task force, points to possible factors: many Filipinos live in larger households, work in the health care profession and have health-related issues."Filipinos have a higher rate for some underlying conditions, like diabetes and high blood pressure," said Fields.Fields is calling for outreach programs similar to a county program appealing to the Latino community.
