SAN DIEGO (Daily Aztec) - San Diego State men’s basketball returned in triumphant fashion to the friendly confines of Viejas Arena, defeating Jackson State 87-44 in front of a crowd of 10,453 on Tuesday night.SDSU (4-2), just six days removed from competing in the Maui Invitational in Maui, Hawaii, scored the first 11 points and never trailed in a wire-to-wire victory over the Tigers.In Maui, SDSU came away victorious against defending Big East champion Xavier, but struggled in losses to Duke and Iowa State, falling by deficits of 30 and 26 points, respectively.  Head coach Brian Dutcher said the game was a chance for the Aztecs to show what they were made of, following tough defeats.“We were challenged against Xavier and came back, we were challenged against Iowa State and didn’t fight hard enough,” Dutcher said. “So I said this is the next challenge. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A former San Diego resident was extradited back to the U.S. to face terrorism charges in federal court.Abdullahi Ahmed Abdullahi, a 34-year-old Canadian national, appeared in court Friday on charges that he conspired with several other Canadian and U.S. citizens to provide material support to terrorists in Syria.Prosecutors said Douglas McCain, known as the first American to die fighting for the Islamic State in 2014, was among those Abdullahi conspired with between 2013 and 2014.Prosecutors say Abdullahi and co-conspirators provided personnel and money to individuals engaged in terrorist activities in Syria, including the killing, kidnapping, and maiming of persons. Officials added that Abdullahi facilitated the travel of at least three Canadian nationals and two U.S. citizens to Syria to join and fight with ISIS.Those individuals were reportedly later killed fighting for ISIS.As part of their plans to provide financial support, Abdullahi's co-conspirators encouraged others to commit crimes, such as theft, prosecutors say. Abdullahi is charged with committing an armed robbery at a jewelry store in Canada to finance travel."Terrorist networks like ISIS cannot exist without supporters," said U.S. attorney Robert Brewer. "Protecting Americans from terrorists is our highest priority, and we will work hard to bring justice to those who provide material support to foreign terror organizations."Abdullahi was detained and deemed a flight risk and danger to the community following his hearing Friday. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A connecting trolley line to San Diego's airport has taken another step closer to reality.Mayor Kevin Faulconer and Acting Navy Secretary Thomas Modly signed an exclusive agreement at the Pentagon Thursday to redevelop the former SPAWAR facility, now "NAVWAR," into a transit hub. SANDAG and Navy plan to collaborate on a hub similar to "Grand Central Station" adjacent to the airport, as well as a modernized complex for Navy use."This new agreement is built on San Diego's strong naval heritage," Faulconer said. "The fact that it was signed by the Acting Secretary of the Navy inside the Pentagon sends the undeniable message that there is momentum and energy in both Washington, D.C. and San Diego to do something truly special with this property. It marks a huge next step in revitalizing this area into a civic asset that serves the U.S. Navy, the community and our regional transportation network."According to SANDAG, one option being explored last year would support housing, retail, and office space. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A jury has reached a verdict in the trial of a woman accused of drunkenly dragging her co-worker with her car before fatally running him over in Kearny Mesa.Latisha Ingram, 33, was convicted of second-degree murder, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, hit-and-run and drunken driving in the death of 25- year-old Ha Minh Ta.Prosecutors say Ingram, Ta, and a group of co-workers went out for drinks on Convoy Street last June, when Ingram tried to driver herself home. Ta tried to stop her, eventually grabbing the door of her car. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A family from Chula Vista is desperately looking for their 9-year-old loved one. Erik Ochoa was swept away by the current in Rosarito on Easter Sunday. Ochoa lives in Tijuana with his father. His sisters, Zusel and Hilary live in Chula Vista. The boy was with two other children walking along the beach in Rosarito when they were swept away. One boy made it out of the current and ran to get an adult nearby. The third child washed ashore, lifeless, 25-minutes after going missing. Erik hasn't been seen since. The sisters have been looking for their brother since they heard about what happened. They've been going from Imperial Beach all the way down to Border Field State Park.The Mexican Navy is actively searching on the Mexican side. The U.S. Coast Guard broadcast a message to boaters telling them to be on the lookout. Erik was last seen wearing green shorts and a striped shirt. The family tells 10News the Mexican Navy will search until Sunday.  1008
