SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Airbnb is warning would-be party-goers this Halloween that weekend parties at San Diego listings are banned and guests could face legal action if they violate the policy.The rental booking platform banned parties at all of its listings in August and capped occupancy at 16 people as a precaution due to the pandemic. Airbnb has also banned one-night reservations over the Halloween weekend across the country."The great majority of guests are respectful of our hosts’ homes and neighbors, and we understand that this initiative will disrupt many one-night reservations that might not have led to parties. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Amid the national conversation on systemic racism, there is growing momentum for a campaign to change the name of a local high school and its mascot.Recently, sisters Emma and Charlotte Taila described the time to act as "a now-or-never moment."Emily is a recent graduate of Serra High School. Charlotte is an incoming junior. They started a Change.org petition drive, reviving an effort to change the school's mascot, a conquistador."[The mascot] represents Spanish colonialism and the brutal impact that it had on Native Americans," said Emma.The numbers of signatures climbed quickly, and then, they got some surprise backing from school leadership."She liked the mascot change and wanted to go a step further and go for a rebranding," said Charlotte."She" is Serra High principal Erica Renfree. In an email to the school community, she proposed not just a mascot change, but a name change to Tierrasanta High School.Serra High School is named after Father Junipero Serra, a canonized saint who founded Mission San Diego de Alcala in 1769."With the establishment of missions, he participated in a lot of cultural erasure and violence again Native Americans," said Emma.In the past week, protesters have toppled statues of Father Serra in San Francisco and Los Angeles. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A woman suffered serious injuries from a hit-and-run crash Saturday while walking in the East Village, San Diego Police said.The 47-year-old woman was dragging her wheelchair across F St. at Park Blvd. at 3:55 a.m. when she was struck by a gray or silver Honda heading west.The car was last seen going north on 11th Ave., police said.The victim suffered two broken legs and a pelvic fracture.San Diego Police Traffic Division officers are investigating the case. 494

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Seattle hiker arrived in San Diego over the weekend, where he'll begin a 2,600-mile trek to raise awareness and money for Alzheimer's disease.Toby Gallier's family was first impacted by the disease four years ago when his mom's partner was diagnosed. Gallier's seen the toll it takes on both patient and caregiver.Gallier will be hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, a grueling five-month trek that will take him through desert, forest and mountains.He's raising money for "The Longest Day" fundraiser through the Alzheimer's Association - you can donate here.You can also follow along on his journey here, Gallier will be posting blog updates whenever he can find WiFi.On Monday the San Diego/Imperial Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association greeted and thanked Gallier for his commitment to this cause. 827

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An almost strangled coyote is getting sympathy from Katie Ryan's neighbors in Oaks North in Rancho Bernardo and from online friends."People are just 'Wow! This is phenomenal. Let's get her rescued, let's get her rescued!'" Ryan said.What appears to be 5- or 6-inch length of plastic flex-pipe that might have been discarded is wrapped tightly around the coyote's neck."Little critters try to make a home in there and other wildlife try to bring out a meal and it's obvious she got her head stuck in there and couldn't back it out," Ryan said.RELATED: Man in construction worker disguise suspected in series of San Diego break-insRyan's familiar with this particular coyote; having seen it out and about for years. Many people fear coyotes but she appreciates the wildlife she watches nightly."They're part of the eco-system here; they clean up; this was one of my favorite rat-catchers," Ryan said.She's worried that cuts on the coyote's neck will get infected and poison it; so she and others have been trying to capture the animal.  "Little tidbits of goodies to lead her in this direction and she almost got into a smaller coyote trap," she added.Wednesday night, they set up a larger trap; one that is mountain lion-sized but no success."She stayed ten feet away from the corner; I think she knew, she spotted the difference in the trap. They're very sensitive to change in the environment and when that happens, they run off," Ryan said.Her brainstorming with others now; hoping to get to the coyote in time; somehow."We're hoping we get her and get her some medical help; get her fixed up and put back into nature." 1703
