The American Academy of Pediatrics is calling on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission to immediately recall the Fisher-Price Rock 'n Play after it has been tied to at least 32 sleep-related infant deaths. A new analysis by Consumer Reports, published on April 8, has tied 32 infant deaths to the rocker. This comes after it was tied to AAP says the previous warning did not go far enough to ensure safety and protect infants. That warning asked parents to stop using the product when the infant reaches 3 months of age or is capable of rolling over. The new Consumer Reports analysis concluded that the 32 deaths, which took place between 2011 and 2018, included babies that were less than 3-months old. The cause of death listed for some of the babies was asphyxia, or the inability to breathe caused by the babies’ position. “This product is deadly and should be recalled immediately,” said Kyle Yasuda, MD, FAAP, president of the American Academy of Pediatrics. “When parents purchase a product for their baby or child, many assume that if it’s being sold in a store, it must be safe to use. Tragically, that is not the case. There is convincing evidence that the Rock ‘n Play inclined sleeper puts infants’ lives at risk, and CPSC must step up and take immediate action to remove it from stores and prevent further tragedies.” AAP is urging parents of children of all ages to stop using the product immediately. They say stores should remove the rocker from their shelves. “We cannot put any more children’s lives at risk by keeping these dangerous products on the shelves,” said Rachel Moon, MD, FAAP, chair of the AAP Task Force on SIDS. “The Rock ‘n Play inclined sleeper should be removed from the market immediately. It does not meet the AAP’s recommendations for a safe sleep environment for any baby. Infants should always sleep on their back, on a separate, flat and firm sleep surface without any bumpers or bedding.” 1949

The average 401(k) balance rose 17% last year to 2,300 from the end of 2018, according to a review of 17.3 million accounts by Fidelity Investments. The average individual retirement account, or IRA, balance rose the same percentage to 5,400.Surging markets around the world were a big reason for the growth: The S&P 500 index had one of its best years in decades with a 31.5% return. Investments of all types logged gains, from junk bonds to stocks from developing economies. But workers’ better savings habits also played a big role.Fidelity said the average worker set aside 8.9% of their pay in their 401(k) in the fourth quarter, a record. Combined with employer matches, the average total savings rate was 13.5% in the quarter, tying its record last reached in the spring of 2019.“Nobody can control the market, so the behaviors of people contributing to their 401(k)s are what get us the most excited,” said Katie Taylor, vice president of thought leadership at Fidelity. “We have people saving 13.5%, which is really close to the 15% that we recommend. That’s a great story.”In many cases, workers may not even realize they’re saving more. Most employers give the option for workers to automatically increase their contributions each year, without having to do anything. Some employers even automatically sign up their employees for these auto-escalation programs, requiring them to opt out if they don’t want their contribution levels to steadily rise.Such features are on top of programs where employers automatically enroll new hires in the 401(k) plan. They all lean on the power of inertia to help workers build up bigger nest eggs. It’s a sharp turnaround from earlier years when workers had to take an extra step to join the 401(k) plan and fill out paperwork whenever they wanted their contribution levels to change.“There’s always a way, if you don’t want to do it, where you can unenroll, but these automatic programs have been a game changer,” Taylor said.Consistent contributions — and giving them time to grow — are keys to building bigger portfolios. Among workers who have been in their 401(k) plan for 10 straight years, the average balance rose to a record 8,200, according to Fidelity.Such figures, though, count only people who have a 401(k). Many lower-income workers, particularly at smaller employers, could not save in a 401(k) even if they wanted to because their companies don’t offer access to one. Legislation passed late last year aims to make it easier for smaller employers to band together and offer plans.Nearly half of all U.S. households aged 55 and over, 48%, had no retirement savings at all as of 2016, according to estimates from the Government Accountability Office. 2737

TELLER COUNTY, Colo. — Patrick Frazee, the man accused of killing his 29-year-old fiancée, Colorado mom Kelsey Berreth, was formally charged with murder Monday morning. The 4th Judicial District Attorney Dan May said he filed two counts of first-degree murder and three counts of solicitation. He said two first-degree murder charges were filed under separate theories: deliberation and felony. “Obviously, there’s only one murder in this case,” May said. “Under Colorado law, we file separate counts under different theories of first-degree murder. We filed under two theories: One is deliberation for murder. And the other is felony murder.”Frazee was arrested December 21 in connection to Berreth’s disappearance. The 29-year-old woman hasn’t been seen since November 22 and authorities have said they believe she is no longer alive.Authorities conducted searches at Frazee’s home in Teller County and Berreth’s home in Woodland Park, Colorado before arresting him on an investigation of first-degree murder charge and a solicitation of first-degree murder charge. On Thursday, a judge decided that Berreth’s parents will get temporary physical custody of Berreth and Frazee’s 1-year-old daughter. Teller County Department of Human Services will retain legal custody. As of Monday morning, Berreth’s body had not yet been found, though police in Twin Falls, Idaho said they thought they had found possible evidence in connection to the case. 1487

A family who decorates their home every year with shining bright lights and Christmas inflatables was vandalized overnight. The McCarthy family says they put out the Christmas display every year. They love the holiday season, and now a Grinch is trying to take that spirit away."I was very angry at first and then I got very upset and cried," said Carol McCarthy. It’s not hard to miss the McCarthy home in Westland during the holiday season."People enjoy it," Carol said. "They come by, they like it. I get a lot of compliments on it and we do it because it just looks pretty." 659
