CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Parents in Chula Vista are horrified after finding out that dozens of children are taking part in what is being called an after-school fight club. Alain Tripp has lived across the street from Bonita Vista Middle School for more than a decade. Once the bell rings, he sees students walk along the canyon trail to go home. But lately, he has been noticing something else. “Every so often I see a group of 15-20 kids. They’ll be standing there and fighting,” Tripp said.Tripp is not the only one who has seen fighting just off campus.Other neighbors said they had witnessed dozens of kids running down the trail on minimum-day Fridays, to participate in organized fights at Discovery Park. One Bonita Vista Middle School student’s mother sent 10News a photo of what appears to be many students scattering after one of the so-called fights. Parents said the students then upload fight videos onto a secret Instagram account, seeking internet fame.“They just see a lot of people who are Youtube famous… A famous Youtuber popping up in their heads and stuff,” Tripp said. “I feel like every year, kids are trying to grow up faster.”Some neighbors told 10News that they have tried to stop the alleged fights, but they say these keep happening. Now, the school is stepping in. 10 News got a copy of the letter sent to parents from Bonita Vista Middle School Principal, Teresa Kramer. 1457

Chief Justice John Roberts made a rare statement on Wednesday pushing back against President Donald Trump after the President again went after federal judges."We do not have Obama judges or Trump judges, Bush judges or Clinton judges," Roberts said. "What we have is an extraordinary group of dedicated judges doing their level best to do equal right to those appearing before them. That independent judiciary is something we should all be thankful for."Roberts' comment came in response to an inquiry from The Associated Press. On Tuesday, Trump slammed the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals again, this time after a judge from the Northern District of California -- where cases get appealed to the 9th Circuit -- issued a temporary restraining order blocking the Trump administration from barring migrants who cross into the US illegally from seeking asylum.Roberts, who then-President George W. Bush tapped to lead the Supreme Court, is the highest authority in the federal judiciary, and his remark was a rare direct response to the head of the Executive Branch.Trump has been a frequent critic of the 9th Circuit, and just a few months into his presidency, Trump said he was considering?breaking up the circuit that covers a slew of western states and Guam.Several of his most controversial policies have been held up by judges there, and the temporary block on his attempt to rewrite asylum rules marked the latest such instance. 1463

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Loved ones are mourning the death from COVID-19 of a retired CHP officer and beloved grandfather.Raul Martinez first started feeling sick in late August."Really tired and a fever," said Claudia Martinez. He tested positive for coronavirus and got sicker and sicker."He started complaining about having trouble breathing and he wouldn't eat," said Martinez.A few weeks after his first symptoms, his family brought him to the ER, where he was admitted.Raul, a diabetic, received various treatments, including Remdesivir, but late last month, he was placed on a ventilator."Super scared and panicked," said Martinez.Less than 24 hours later, Raul Martinez, a retired CHP officer, died at the age of 70."It was just shock and more pain than I can describe," said Martinez.Claudia says the father of four and grandfather of nine retired from the CHP a decade ago, after three decades on the job."He took pride definitely in servicing his community. He took pride in being a just person," said Martinez. He was also a careful person. During the pandemic, he and his wife were taking all the precautions."They were staying home a lot, wearing masks," said Martinez. She has no idea where he contracted the virus. As the pandemic continues on, she has a plea for others."Please do take it seriously, if not for yourself, for your loved ones ... Think of others and wear a mask. It’s not too much to ask. It’s about respect for your neighbors," said Martinez.Raul’s wife also contracted coronavirus and is recovering at home.A Gofundme campaign has set up the help the family with expenses. 1615
