If you're a pet owner, you know your furry friend can be expensive, especially when it comes to their medical bills. Last year, Americans spent billion at the vet. That's why more owners are now opting for pet insurance. But, is it worth it?"When you are presented with a ,000 bill for emergency surgery, you might only have to pay a couple hundred dollars," says Dr. Jessica Weeks, with BluePearl Veterinary Partner.   Routine care for a dog can be on average 7, and for cats, it’s around 2, according to the American Pet Product Association.  "Most people aren't prepared financially for those things that happen unexpectedly," says Dr. Weeks.Last year, there were 1.83 million pets insured, and experts say that number is climbing.   There are a few caveats with pet insurance, Dr. Weeks says. A majority of the plans do not cover shots and checkups. They only cover the big medical expenses, like treatments and surgery. Additionally, many plans will make you pay the bill in full and then they'll reimburse you after.   "There are similarities as far as pre-existing conditions,” says Dr. Weeks. “If your pet already has an illness and you try to get insurance, a lot of times insurance won't cover that."  That's why vets recommend you do your research. Dr. Weeks recommends owners with young pets get insurance.  As far as the best pet insurance goes, Consumer Watchdog’s top three picks include: Healthy Paws, Pet Plan and Embrace Pet Insurance.   "To be honest, when I have owners come in who have pet insurance, it's a huge relief on my part,” says Dr. Weeks. “So, I can offer standards of care of medicine and do the best that we can for those patients."  1756

I asked what the issue was and he said my brother was "in the bushes" and it was "suspicious" and they thought he may have been homeless. I asked why I needed to show ID at my own home. He said "Well, it's not your home. The University owns it." (9/n)— Danielle Fuentes Morgan (@mos_daf) August 22, 2020 311

House Democrats are expected to retain a majority of US House seats in 2021, but with a smaller margin. The leader of the House Democrats, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, said on Wednesday the election was “challenging” in a letter to colleagues. As of Wednesday evening, House Republicans have netted five seats by flipping seven Democratic seats. Democrats flipped two previously held Republican seats. All seven of the House Democrats that lost were representatives who only served one term in Congress. The seven freshmen members of Congress ushered in a “Blue Wave” in 2018, which gave Democrats the majority in the House for the first time in eight years. The 2018 Blue Wave also returned Pelosi to the speaker’s chair, where it appears she’ll remain in 2021 and 2022.“Though it was a challenging election, all of our candidates – both Frontline and Red to Blue – made us proud,” Pelosi wrote to colleagues. “Their drumbeat For The People enabled Democrats to Hold The House and flipped critical battleground states, building our margins across the board. Our discipline in building a massive battlefield proved essential in keeping the Majority. Our success enabled us to win in our ‘mobilization, messaging and money,’ forcing Republicans to defend their own territory.”Despite not winning a majority of seats, House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy celebrated Republicans regaining seats in the House.“We expanded this party that reflects America, that looks like America. And thanks,” McCarthy said. “I think the rejection that we saw last night from the Democrats was that America does not want to be a socialist nation. I think the other rejection that we saw, we watched the Democrats promise if they would be given the power to have the majority, that they would act different, that they would solve problems and they wasted their majority.” 1850

In a scene that could be straight out of a children's book, around a ton of liquid chocolate flowed out of a factory and caked a street in a west German town on Monday.Firefighters said a storage tank overflowed at DreiMeister's chocolate factory in West?nnen, a suburb of the town of Werl, running out of the gates and solidifying on the chilly sidewalk."About a ton of chocolate ran out into the yard and from there onto the street, " a spokesman for the Werl fire brigade said in a statement. "A ten-square-meter choco-pancake formed," the statement added.Firefighters then worked to remove the chocolate, prying the "sweet danger with shovels and muscle power," the brigade wrote.DreiMeister's boss Markus Luckey told German newspaper Soester Anzeiger that if the spill happened closer to Christmas it "would have been a disaster."Luckey added that the factory would be back in action on Wednesday.According to the paper, around 25 firefighters were on scene to help with the clean-up.A specialist company was brought in to assist after the incident and the brigade assured locals that a chocolate-free Christmas would not be "imminent in Werl."The-CNN-Wire? & ? 2018 Cable News Network, Inc., a Time Warner Company.
