Coming home to that dog that’s just looking at you and wagging its tail, it’s hard to feel upset because that's unconditional love,” Catherine Baines-Sobczak, a licensed marriage family therapist with the HealthOne crisis assessment team, said.“Essentially it’s a perception of not feeling connected to other people, feeling unsupported or feeling that you’re misunderstood,” she said. She said beyond the online games, book clubs, and phone calls, animals provide something special.“With seniors it's difficult to find things to care for that give you that immediate reaction, so those pets...they do that,” she explained. “Having something to hold that’s tactile, that's soft, that may bring up memories of past pets they've had...that could help them feel less lonely.”Decreasing the sense of loneliness has other health benefits too.“Their memory is also impaired by loneliness, you don't have those outside triggers to remind you of things and to stay connected,” Baines-Sobczak said.As we find new ways to connect with our older loved ones without putting their health at risk, the demand for companion pets, which are sold online, continues to bloom.“I think like most skeptics, the second you see an older adult receive one of these, immediately name it and interact with it like they've had it forever, it’s magical. A 14-year-old from Port Huron, Michigan has been arrested in connection to a threatening comment made on the Instagram account of New England Patriots receiver Julian Edelman.According to a New York Times article, Edelman received a comment on an Instagram post late last month saying: "I'm going to shoot my school up watch the news."The New York Times reports that Edelman's assistant called 911 and police determined the sender's email and IP address was traced to Port Huron.The teen was brought in for questioning and admitted to making the threat. He was arrested and charged with making a false report of a threat of terrorism, a four-year felony in Michigan. Police say a search of his home turned up two rifles that belonged to the teen's mother. Port Huron detectives credited Edelman with bringing the threat forward.  857

(KGTV) — President Trump stood by his demands for border wall funding, following a meeting with Democratic leadership Friday, ensuring more debate into the weekend over .6 billion for his border wall to end the government shutdown.In a press conference, the president discussed his meeting, calling it productive and saying he believed progress with Democrats had been made. However, House Speaker told reporters outside the White House that, "We cannot resolve this until we open up government, and we made that very clear to the president."Here are six takeaways from President Trump's press conference:On the government shutdown...During his meeting with Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer, President Trump confirmed he said the government shutdown could last for months or even a year or longer."I don't think it will, but I am prepared," Trump told reporters. "I hope it doesn't go on even a few more days. It really could open very quickly."He added later that the government wouldn't reopen until the issue of border security and wall is solved.
