BEIJING, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- Chinese scientist Guo Huadong on Tuesday published an article on the website of the academic journal, Nature, calling on global scientists to build a digital Silk Road using big data.

The Belt and Road Initiative, proposed by China in 2013, aims to build trade and infrastructure networks connecting Asia with Europe and Africa based on ancient land and maritime trade routes.

"It is being unreasonable and hegemonic in suppressing China's economic growth and scientific and technological development on national security grounds," she said. "Technology should serve the interests of humanity rather than be a tool to advance one nation's power over another."

Both as developing countries, China and the Latin American countries are facing common tasks of development and their win-win cooperation is based on equality, reciprocity, openness and inclusiveness, said the spokesperson.
