(AP) — Traffic was backed up for miles for thousands of drivers Friday night on a busy Los Angeles-area freeway after a chase that lasted well over an hour and saw the driver repeatedly back into police cruisers.At one point after backing into a cruiser, the man gestured from his window with what appeared to be a knife.The man drove onto Interstate 5 in Burbank the wrong way, eventually passed a police barrier and rammed into several cars before stopping.Police evacuated drivers from their cars while they had their guns trained on the car. The driver eventually got out. It appeared that officers used a stun gun on him, prompting him to get back into the car.A standoff pursued and eventually ended after the man got out of the car, laid down for a while and tried to run away. (KGTV) — Border Patrol agents this week discovered several packages of narcotics stuffed inside a vehicle's gas tank at an East County checkpoint.The agents stopped the vehicle at a Campo border checkpoint at about 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. During initial questioning, a K-9 officer inspecting the vehicle alerted agents to a possible narcotics.As the K-9 officer further inspected the vehicle, the canine directed agents toward the vehicle's gas tank. Agents say they discovered 53 cellophane packages floating in the gas tank, containing about 58.6 pounds of methamphetamine worth 4,780.The driver, a 47-year-old U.S. citizen, was arrested and the narcotics were turned over to Drug Enforcement Administration. As of Wednesday, Border Patrol officials say they seized more than 2,000 pounds of meth worth more than .6 million. 852

CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) - After a woman died in a jet ski crash in the Agua Hedionda Lagoon in Carlsbad on Sunday, Stephen and Aimee Cochrane were confronted with a painful memory.“I just cannot believe that this would have happened. It’s just wrong,” said Aimee.Her indignation was amplified by the fact that she and her husband were involved in a crash in the same lagoon in July of 2016.They had decided to rent a jet ski on their anniversary, something they had never done before.“We wanted to do something different,” recalled Stephen.But when they got to California Watersports at the Agua Hedionda Lagoon, they had second thoughts.“It was wild. It was mayhem out there,” said Stephen, describing the busy activity on the water.Despite their hesitations, they decided to go for it. But before they had even completed one lap around the buoys, they said they were t-boned by another rider.“We both flew off the jet ski,” remembers Aimee.Stephen said he momentarily blacked out. Aimee remembers swimming over to him and seeing him face down in the water.He was eventually pulled onto a boat and taken into an ambulance. He said he ended up with three broken ribs and a fractured sternum.Aimee suffered some cuts and bruises on her legs, but no broken bones.Stephen said he had to take three weeks off of work and pay ,000 in out of pocket medical expenses. He says he still has pain in his chest from the injury.After the crash, they said they had no contact with the owners of the rental company. They said they were unaware if the company had made any changes to prevent future crashes.10News spoke to an employee at California Waterspouts who said they would not be providing any statements. (KGTV) - A brush fire broke out Friday afternoon in the hills east of Burbank.Burbank firefighters and police officers closed roads near Sunset Canyon Drive and Harvard Road about 2 p.m.The location of the fire is above a residential neighborhood. Crews are evacuating hikers in the area.There was no immediate word on the cause of the fire.The flames are burning near the site of the La Tuna Fire, which burned more than 7,000 acres and five homes in September 2017.10News is monitoring breaking developments.  545

CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) -- Police and the FBI are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man suspected of robbing a bank in Carlsbad.Carlsbad police said the robbery happened on Oct. 1, at 3:45 p.m., in the 6900 block of El Camino Real.According to police, a white man believed to be in his mid-20s entered the bank and demanded cash. The man referred to a gun during the robbery, but a firearm was not seen, police said.After getting an undisclosed amount of money, the man exited the branch and was last seen running toward Dove Lane.Police noted that “no vehicle has been associated with the suspect.”No injuries were reported during the incident.The suspected robber is 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighs 180 pounds and has a thin build.
