Gavin Newsom's desk for approval.Assembly Bill 2152, known as "Bella’s Act," would ban the retail sale of dogs, cats, and rabbits, while allowing stores to partner with rescues and shelters for adoption events. The bill stops pet stores from receiving any money from adoption transactions or from using the store or its resources in connection with adoption events.Assemblymember Todd Gloria, of San Diego, introduced the bill in February 2020. Bella sold for thousands of dollars. Her owner says the dog was declawed while in the puppy mill and developed severe bronchitis that led to costly medical bills.Bella has since recovered but still suffers from anxiety.San Diego Humane Society President and CEO Dr. Gary Weitzman said, “We are thrilled with the passage of AB 2152, Bella’s Act, to close loopholes in the law that allowed unscrupulous pet store owners to continue to ship puppy mill puppies into our state for sale. (KGTV) - A new study claims Californians are dishing out extra cash due to the condition of the state's roads while supporters of an effort to repeal the gas tax slammed the study for neglecting to tell the whole truth. The study, conducted by TRIP, claims that driving on California roadways costs motorists statewide an estimated billion per year. The estimate is based on vehicle operating costs as a result of driving on rough roads, time and gas lost due to traffic, and the costs of traffic accidents.The study claims 64 percent of San Diego’s major roads and highways are in either poor or mediocre condition.When it comes to San Diego’s bridges, the study claims 64 of them are deemed structurally deficient and in need of improvement.Meanwhile, supporters of the gas tax repeal slammed the study as being a PR stunt by lawmakers to get more money out of California residents. “Don’t be fooled by a PR stunt by politicians of a few projects being approved in the middle of the Gas Tax Repeal campaign. Only a fraction of the existing gas tax goes to any road projects currently with the rest stolen and wasted by politicians. We could fix all of our roads if we simply allocated 100 percent of gas tax revenues to roads, but the politicians will never do that because this has never been about fixing roads, but rather getting more of your money," said Carl DeMaio, chairman of Yes on 6, a statewide effort to repeal the tax.  1486

He's now also facing a charge of obstructing justice. 423

According to Circulate San Diego, 1,992 people were injured, and 101 people were killed in 2018 while walking and biking on roads throughout San Diego County. While the report paints a grim picture of the problem, it also includes solutions. Some strategies to prevent crashes include reducing speed limits, redesigning streets to make them more accessible, raising awareness and enhancing data-driven traffic enforcement. Cities included in the report include Carlsbad, Del Mar, Oceanside, Encinitas, Solana Beach, Poway, Escondido, Vista and San Marcos.
