The NFL is planning on playing “Lift Every Voice and Sing” before all Week 1 football games this fall, a source familiar with the league’s discussions confirmed with EW Scripps on Thursday.USA Today and ESPN first reported that the NFL is in the process of finalizing plans to play the song considered a “Black Anthem.” The source said the song would be performed before the Star Spangled Banner before Week 1 games in September. The source said the league is working collaboratively with players to recognize victims of systemic racism throughout the season through a variety of in-game and programs. Among the items being discussed with players are: on-uniform elements, which could include the names of victims police brutality on helmet decals or jerseys patches and educational programs. The league is also considering public service announcements. The NFL is said to be in discussions with the NFLPA to finalize the plans. Earlier this week, NASCAR played “Lift Every Voice and Sing” before the Pocono 350. The song has also been performed at other various sporting events, including a Georgetown men's basketball game. The lyrics to the song were written as a poem in 1900 and set to music five years later. Last month, amid a nationwide protests in response to the death of George Floyd, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, who faced blame for not standing behind players who participated in protests, conceded he was wrong about players kneeling during the national anthem in response to police brutality.Goodell stated his support for Black Lives Matter in a video released on social media."We the National Football League, condemn racism and the systematic oppression of black people," Goodell said. "We, the National Football League, admit we were wrong for not listening to NFL players earlier and encourage all to speak out and peacefully protest," Goodell said. 1879

The main actors from “The Princess Bride” are reuniting virtually this month, and not everyone is happy about the reason why.The cast, including Cary Elwes, Robin Wright, Carol Kane, Chris Sarandon, Mandy Pantinkin, Wallace Shawn, Billy Crystal, and Rob Reiner, will be doing a script read of the 1987 film followed by a Q&A. It’s part of a fundraiser for the Wisconsin Democrats.“Anything you donate will be used to ensure that Trump loses Wisconsin, and thereby the White House,” the event sign-up page reads.Texas Republican, and “The Princess Bride” fan, Senator Ted Cruz fired back at the actors. Following a tweet from Elwes promoting the event, he responded with one of his own.“Do you hear that Fezzik? That is the sound of ultimate suffering. My heart made that sound when the six-fingered man killed my father. Every Princess Bride fan who wants to see that perfect movie preserved from Hollywood politics makes it now.” 942

The math is simple. If President Donald Trump wins the same states he won four years ago, he'll be president of the United States for four more years. But sweeping the swing states of Florida, Arizona, Texas, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan and Ohio may be more difficult a second time around. Polls show the potential of each one of those states voting Democrat in 2020. As a result, Trump may need to pick up a state Hillary Clinton won in 2016. MINNESOTA FOCUS While the Trump campaign is investing in states like Nevada and Colorado, Minnesota is emerging as the president's likeliest pick up opportunity. Republicans haven't won Minnesota since 1972, the party's longest losing streak. "It’s a state we think we are going to do very well in," Hogan Gidley, a top campaign adviser to Trump, said. "We only lost it by 1.4%, 44,000 votes," Gidley added. Unlike four years ago, Trump is investing in the state. He has already made campaign stops there. The Trump campaign spent around ,000 in Minnesota in 2016. In 2020, they could spend well north of million. VIEW OF PARTY CHAIRSJennifer Carnahan, chair of the Minnesota Republican Party, believes rural Minnesota will offset progressive turnout in cities like Minneapolis. "I actually think the support there for our president has grown over the past four years," Carnahan said. Meanwhile Ken Martin, chair of the Minnesota Democratic Party, says it isn't just wishful thinking that Republicans can win in the state. "They have the largest campaign on the ground in the state of Minnesota," Martin said, speaking about the Trump campaign. But Martin says Team Biden is aggressively hiring staffers and is vowing to not overlook the state. "The cavalry is coming," Martin added. 1749

The National Weather Service is projecting Southern Arizona's fire season to be more active than normal."There's leftover dry fuels from last year, and there's newly formed fine fuels," Warning Coordination Meteorologist Ken Drozd said.Above average daytime high temperatures, combined with storm systems bringing wind but no rain, and very dry conditions, are some of the reasons why the NWS projects May and June to have the more fire activity than normal.Due to a wet February, there is now more dry fuel in the region, according to Drozd. Sometimes, significant rain events leading into fire season can delay or shorten it, but that wasn't the case this year."Those new grasses that greened up from that precipitation event have now dried out again, due to the warm temperatures we've experienced lately," Drozd said."The hotter you get, the more you're going to dry things out. It just keeps things dried out unless you get some intermediate rain that'll come in, and again, there's none in the forecast right now."Last year, fires ripped through Southern Arizona from April to July, blackening landscapes and destroying homes in their paths. People from communities all through the region were forced to evacuate, sometimes on multiple occasions. The American Red Cross is urging people prepare ahead of time. The popular video-sharing app TikTok, its future in limbo since President Donald Trump tried to shut it down earlier this fall, is asking a federal court to intervene. TikTok’s Chinese owner, ByteDance, has until Thursday to sell off its U.S. operations under an executive order that Trump signed in August. Trump in September gave his tentative blessing to a ByteDance proposal that would place TikTok under the oversight of American companies Oracle and Walmart. But TikTok said this week it’s received “no clarity” from the U.S. government about whether its proposals have been accepted.ByteDance is now asking the U.S. Court of Appeals to review the actions of the Trump administration's Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), who is overseeing the sale.“For a year, TikTok has actively engaged with CFIUS in good faith to address its national security concerns, even as we disagree with its assessment,” TikTok says in a statement to The Verge. “In the nearly two months since the President gave his preliminary approval to our proposal to satisfy those concerns, we have offered detailed solutions to finalize that agreement – but have received no substantive feedback on our extensive data privacy and security framework.”“Facing continual new requests and no clarity on whether our proposed solutions would be accepted, we requested the 30-day extension that is expressly permitted in the August 14 order. Today, with the November 12 CFIUS deadline imminent and without an extension in hand, we have no choice but to file a petition in court to defend our rights and those of our more than 1,500 employees in the US. We remain committed to working with the Administration — as we have all along — to resolve the issues it has raised, but our legal challenge today is a protection to ensure these discussions can take place.” 1863
