DUSHANBE, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- China and Tajikistan will enhance high-level contacts, expand exchanges and cooperation in various fields to fully develop their relations of good-neighborliness, friendship and cooperation, said a joint communique signed on Thursday by the two countries.Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao signed the communique with his Tajik counterpart Akil Akilov in his two-day visit to the Central Asian nation. CHANGCHUN, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) - An electric short circuit in a shop was believed to be the cause of a shopping mall blaze that killed 19 people earlier this month in northeast China's Jilin Province, a spokesman with the provincial work safety bureau said Thursday.The fire broke out on Nov. 5 in Jilin Commercial Building, Jilin City and lasted 12 hours. It left 19 people dead, 24 others injured and took fire fighters 10 hours to extinguish the flames, which ravaged 15,830 square meters of the five-storey mall.Investigations found that a short circuit in Sishulang Shop on the first floor of the mall was the cause of the fire.Police have detained 14 people in connection with the fatal blaze. The families of each of the victims have received at least 250,000 yuan (37,600 U.S. dollars) in compensation from the government.

BEIJING, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- Foreign direct investment (FDI) into China hit a record 105.74 billion U.S. dollars last year, up 17.4 percent year on year, the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) announced Tuesday.In December alone, China attracted 14.03 billion U.S. dollars of FDI, up 15.6 percent year on year, making it the 17th consecutive month of FDI growth since August 2009.The rapid FDI growth could be attributed to robust development in the service sector and the country's central and western regions, said MOC spokesman Yao Jian.FDI in the service sector rose 28.6 percent last year and that in central and western regions climbed 27.6 percent year on year, Yao said.
