SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The Christ United Methodist Church's Safe Harbors Network needs help to prepare for the next wave of migrants approaching the US-Mexico border.The network, started in 2016, provides basic necessities for refugees, such as a bed, shower, food, clothes, medical care and legal aide, until their court date."They don't have anything, they have the clothes they're wearing, they don't have phones, they don't have money, they would be homeless, so we take them in," Volunteer Kathryn LaPointe said.In 2016 the majority of their refugees were Haitian, over the past several months they're mostly women and children from Central America."We're taking in between 20 and 30 a night the past few days, most of them were able to send to their families, but I would like to help more people," LaPointe said.Sunday, LaPointe said they're at capacity and need all the help they can get. "Every person that walks in front of me, I ask for a building," she said laughing, "can you please get me a building."The network is comprised of individuals, congregations and organizations who care for refugees. "[Provide] basic human kindness, and," LaPointe said as she sighed heavily, "I am so grateful to be able to do that to extend that kindness and I would like to extend that kindness to more people." 1347

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The Infinite Chemical Analysis Lab building in Miramar looks like any other chemical lab, but inside the products they are testing are all cannabis. InfiniteCal tests products for things like potency, pesticides, heavy metals and microbial analysis to make sure the products are safe for consumption and meet state standards. Josh Swider is the CEO and co-founder. Swider's company consists of roughly 45 employees, 30 of those are either chemists or biologists. The team tests products for licensed retailers to make sure their cannabis meets the standard for what is allowed by the state. When it comes to vaping, Swider says their analysis shows that what's making people sick is when the product is diluted, most recently with Vitamin E or Vitamin E acetate. According to the CDC, 33 people have died from lung related illnesses linked to e-ciggarettes or vaping products. Most of those samples tested by the FDA had THC. San Diego County has confirmed 22 vape related illnesses in the county. Although InfiniteCal doesn't just test products for vaping, Swider says the best thing a person can do is to do their research and make sure they are buying from a licensed retailer. He also recommends asking the business for their certificate of analysis to find out what's in the cannabis product they're consuming. InfiniteCal operates six days a week and also will tests an individual consumer's product if they show up to the lab. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The Coast Guard is searching for three people after a fishing vessel caught fire Saturday night, sending two people to the hospital and leading to the rescue of 15 more.According to the Coast Guard, the crew of a 42-foot fishing vessel named “Time Machine” called to report seeing a fire at 9:35 p.m. 28 miles south of Point Loma. The good Samaritans aboard the boat were able to pull 15 people out of the water, including two who were injured.10News spoke to the captain and crew of "Time Machine."Captain Mike Koesterer and his crew were on their way back into San Deigo from a fishing trip in Baja California when he saw an explosion in international waters. "I saw an orange flash," he said. For the next 20 minutes, he drove his vessel closer to the ball of fire. The next thing he saw will be etched in his mind forever. “We thought it might be a few people. But we kept on counting and counting and counting," Koesterer said.In the water, he and his crew witnessed 15 people screaming for help. Some had life vests. Others were wading. That's when his son Reeve changed into his diving suit and jumped in to help.“I knew there were going to be burns, but I didn’t think it would be that bad,” Reeve Koesterer said. He first pulled up a woman without a life vest. She desperately grabbed his hair and used Koesterer as a floatation device. The next few rescues were a blur. One by one, he carried and pulled the burn victims onto the "Time Machine." During the rescue, one of the victims told Reeve Koesterer that this was part of a human smuggling operation. “Do whatever we can to get them out of the water. No matter what the case is. They’re still lives,” Reeve Koesterer said. Andy Vo is usually responsible for shooting and editing fishing videos for the "Time Machine's" charter trips. Last night, he was also documenting the rescue on his phone. As the Koesterers were pulling people on board, Vo comforted the victims-- giving them blankets and coffee. “People that we rescued. He called us angels," Vo said. What are the odds that a fishing boat carrying Reeve Koesterer--  a young, bilingual English Spanish speaker, expert diver -- would be right there to save those lives? SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The mother of a missing San Diego State graduate is offering a ,000 reward to find him.Wesley Billingsly, 24, was last seen in June. A San Diego Police flyer indicated he was prepared to meet friends and never arrived.Billingsly earned a degree in business administration and marketing from SDSU. He traveled to his native Sacramento and earned money for his return to San Diego, his mother Christel told 10News.Christel Billingsley said her son was looking for a job and wanted to save on rent. After June 1, he did not have a permanent address and started couch-surfing at friends’ homes in Pacific Beach.Wesley and his Ford Expedition disappeared June 12. “It’s completely out of character,” said his mother.Christel paid her son’s phone bill and described him as a social media junkie. About two months ago, the phone stopped showing activity.“Everything stopped on June 12. He just vanished off the face of this earth,” Christel said.Christel is employed as a school officer manager in Sacramento and recently returned to her job after summer break. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Sunday, doctors revealed President Donald Trump is taking a steroid, called Dexamethasone, as the latest medication for his coronavirus treatment."We just don't know what's going to happen next, things are very unpredictable," Dr. Christian Ramers, Chief of Population Health at Family Health Centers, said.Ramers has seen thousands of COVID-19 patients and says the disease has two phases, virus production and inflammatory. He said the shift generally happens seven to ten days in."Once things kind of shift, the damage actually comes more from the immune system's response than the virus itself," Ramers said, which is why a steroid like Dexamethasone is prescribed."Where it showed a decrease in mortality was in people who already required oxygen or if they were even sicker than that and were on ventilation," said Ramers, citing a study.Sunday, doctors stated the president received oxygen Friday before being taken to Walter Reed Medical Center, but said his oxygen levels only dipped to 94% and 93%. Normal levels are 95% and above.Ramers said studies show if you give the steroid too early or to someone who has a mild case, it could cause harm. "If you dial down the immune system too early or in a case that is really mild, you might have the opposite effect you're looking for," Ramers said.There's also a list of side effects."If you use them for a chronic basis or for more than a couple of days there is a long list of things it can cause.
