SDCE offers training certificates in healthcare, welding, information technology, cybersecurity, culinary arts, clothing, automotives, and more.For Richard Sanchez, who lost his job during the pandemic, it's a chance to start over after a layoff."I'm already 38 years old," Sanchez said. "To have this opportunity helps people out to get a new job and change your career."According to a recent report by SANDAG, around 460,000 people in San Diego have lost their jobs since March 7. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, a Republican whose term ends next month, revealed he is considering running for governor in an interview Thursday with the Los Angeles Times.The race will be tough for any Republican, according to political analyst John Dadian, because registered Democrats far outnumber Republicans in California. Those registered with no party preference also outnumber Republicans. “The uphill is he’d have to pull in all the people that are neither democrat or republican, but it’s certainly possible," Dadian said.According to Dadian, many political pundits consider Faulconer to be the most viable Republican in a general election, citing his record as a moderate mayor who frequently cross the aisle to work with Democrats on issues such as climate change. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police believe the man whose mud-covered body was found in the Tijuana River may have floated across the border into the United States, investigators said Friday. The man’s body was found Thursday in the river behind the Las Americas Premium Outlets, police said. He was partially covered in debris, water, and mud. An autopsy revealed the man had suffered traumatic injuries, but investigators did not provide details on the nature of them. “It is possible the man’s body was carried by the Tijuana River across the border into the United States, where it was discovered,” police said. The man had distinctive tattoos, which investigators hope to use to make an identification. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diegans could soon be using just their faces to board a plane, a cruise ship or get into a rock concert.It's because more companies are testing, or rolling out, the controversial facial recognition technology. "Facial recognition is great if it works. If it doesn't, it produces problems," said Stephen Cobb, senior security researcher at ESET. A Ticketmaster-owned company will soon test facial recognition to get people into events faster. In other words, a person could theoretically upload an image of their face onto an app, and then go right into the event without stopping for a ticket scan or, potentially, a security check.Jet Blue rolled out the facial recognition technology last year, and Royal Caribbean cruises is starting to do the same. "It sounds alright but it also sounds kind of weird to have your face in there," said Kathy Nagy, who used a mobile ticket to get into Wednesday's Padres game. "I think that having a ticket on your phone is just as fast as showing your face."Cobb said there are many concerns over how companies will maintain and protect people's data, including even whether they have the capabilities to avoid breaches."I don't see any commercial roll out of facial recognition which is purely around efficiency," he said.
