SAN DIEGO (CNS) — The San Diego County Credit Union announced Wednesday it set a new Guinness world record for the most paper shredded in eight hours.The paper shredding company Shred-It shredded 239,060 pounds of paper Saturday at the credit union's 2019 Super Shred event at SDCCU Stadium.SDCCU broke the previous record for the most paper shredded in eight hours, which was set at its 2017 Super Shred event. The credit union also holds the record for the most paper collected in 24 hours."We thank everyone who came out to the SDCCU Super Shred event this past weekend and helped us achieve a new Guinness World Records title," said SDCCU President and CEO Teresa Campbell. "SDCCU is pleased to not only achieve a new record, but to provide this much-needed, free service to the community."SDCCU also collected more than ,000 for the Stuff the Bus program, which provides food to more than 22,000 homeless students around the county. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Taking swift action after Thursday's San Diego City Council meeting in which a lone franchise utility bid was revealed, Mayor Todd Gloria Friday announced he was rejecting San Diego Gas & Electric's bid for the city's gas and electric utilities.The lone bid revealed Thursday was for million -- the minimum amount set by former Mayor Kevin Faulconer in September for the 20 year contracts -- and many callers into the meeting asked for the council to ask for a one-year extension for the new mayor and councilmembers get up to speed.The Thursday meeting was informational only, but the information was enough for Gloria."After reviewing the bid submitted by SDG&E and consulting with the City Attorney's office, we have determined their bid is unresponsive to the city's invitation to bid. Therefore, I am rejecting the bid and canceling the current ITB process," Gloria said. "I will be pursuing an extension of the existing agreement between the city and SDG&E to allow enough time for the new City Council to get up to speed and more opportunities for public engagement to occur."The council must take action at its next meeting on Jan. 12; the existing franchise agreement with SDG&E expires Jan. 17. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - SDCCU Stadium in Mission Valley was added to the 30th annual list of the top 10 endangered landmarks and cultural landscapes in San Diego released Tuesday by the Save Our Heritage Organisation.SOHO called the facility -- known until recently as Qualcomm Stadium -- "one of the few mid-century designed, multi-purpose stadiums" to remain standing in the United States."Innovative design features include the pre-cast concrete, pre-wired light towers and spiral concrete pedestrian ramps," according to SOHO. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego Loyal SC announced today it will forfeit the point it received from its 1-1 tie with LA Galaxy II because of a racial slur directed at a Black SD Loyal player.LA Galaxy II defender Omar Ontiveros used the slur in the 71st minute of Wednesday's 1-1 tie at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, according to USL Championship, which suspended Ontiveros Friday for six games.Multiple officials, LA Galaxy II coaching staff and players were in the area, several of whom later acknowledged hearing the exchange, according to SD Loyal.Ontiveros was not disciplined by LA Galaxy II coaching staff or referees.
