(KGTV) - Some unexpected joy is arriving in the mail for residents of local senior care facilities, amid the ongoing restrictions on visitors.When the coronavirus pandemic forced visitor restrictions on nursing homes, Terri Martinson was conflicted. Her father is a resident at Parkview at Paradise Village in National City. She was happy the health of her father - Clyde Hasemeyer - was being protected, but she knows her dad."My dad is very social. He loves getting visitors, and telling jokes, playing games, singing and laughing. I was really concerned he wouldn't have any visitors," said Martinson.She and her family call often and write letters, but a few days ago, Clyde got a letter from someone he doesn't know. Clyde, a Koren War Marine Veteran, received a letter from 14-year-old Christian Hughes.10news caught up with Christian and his mother Mariana a few days ago as they began a letter-writing campaign for local senior care facilities. Their idea caught fire on social media. Hundreds of letters and cards have started to arrive at nursing homes, ending up in the hands and hearts of people like Clyde."My dad was so happy. He laughed and enjoyed it so much. He asked the caregiver to tape them up on his wall, so he could look at them all the time. Just makes him feel so nice not to be so isolated away from everyone," said Martinson.It's a feeling of not being alone during a time of staying apart. More than two dozen children in Virginia who had been reported missing are now recovered.The U.S. Marshals released a statement Monday morning stating their five-day effort called “Operation Find Our Children” resulted in the recovery of 27 children who had been previously missing in Virginia. They also located an additional six children who had been reported missing but were discovered with their legal guardians.More than 60 law enforcement officers from federal agencies, state and local regions participated in the effort. They were joined by 50 employees from social services, a team of medical professionals and representatives from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.Details about the children who were recovered, including when they were reported missing and where they were found, were not immediately available.This recovery effort is the latest from the U.S. Marshals. In September, a similar group of federal, state and local officers recovered 35 previously reported missing children in Ohio. MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Attorneys for four former Minneapolis officers charged in the death of George Floyd say that each client should get his own trial, as the officers try to diminish their roles in the Black man’s death by pointing fingers at one another. A hearing is scheduled for Friday to address several issues, including whether there will be a joint trial in the case. Other issues that will be argued include defense requests to move the trial away from Minneapolis. Floyd, who was Black, died May 25 after Derek Chauvin pressed his knee against Floyd’s neck. NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Metro Police have identified the six officers who first responded to the scene of the downtown explosion Christmas morning. City officials say these officers showed up to a "shots fired" call on 2nd Avenue around 5:30 a.m. Upon arrival, an RV on the street played a recording and countdown, saying the vehicle contained a bomb and warning everyone to leave the area. MISSION BEACH (CNS) - A man robbed a Subway sandwich shop in Mission Beach Saturday afternoon, police said.Police were told a little before 1 p.m. that a man in his 30s had walked into a the Subway on West Mission Bay Drive near Mission Boulevard and threatened the clerk, San Diego Police Officer Sarah Foster said.The man "simulated" having a weapon in his pocked and demanded money, Foster said. The clerk complied and the man left the business on foot. He was last seen heading north away from the store.The suspect was described only as a man in his 30s, according to Foster. A man was wanted in a similar robbery of a Subway last Sunday, though detectives weren't available for comment on whether the two cases were related.The robber in the Sunday case was also described as a man in his 30s and reportedly simulated having a gun in his waistband.
