Smith believes in addition to the spike in retirements, there’s also fewer construction workers because there’s less vocational training available.“We’ve pushed all of our young people into college which college is great for some people for some people but not for everyone,” Smith said.As companies like Lawrence Construction continue to struggle to find staff, bids keep getting higher.“It’s going to be driving the prices up, because it’s now with the labor shortage, now the people can demand a higher pay,” Smith said.Though construction is hard work, Smith says its can also be very rewarding.“You can drive down a stretch of road and tell you family, ‘I worked on this job’” he said. “And you can do that for many years to come.” 2543

Police said a woman was thrown out of a vehicle onto the freeway. The woman was transported to Metro Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. It is unknown if any arrests have been made. 351

CLEARWATER, Fla. — An 11-foot alligator made an unwanted overnight visit into a Florida home.The Clearwater Police Department said the massive gator smashed a ground-level kitchen window to get inside the home located in the Eagles Landing neighborhood.After finding the alligator, the homeowner called police.Officers said a trapper helped them capture the unwanted visitor.Thankfully, no one was injured; however, the homeowner will need to replace their broken windows. 484

CASHION, Okla. — A 65-year-old Oklahoma woman has been charged after body camera video shows her combative confrontation with a police officer when she refused to sign an ticket.Video shows Debra Hamil was not willing to pay up when a Cashion police officer issued the ticket for a broken tail light.When the officer asked her to step out of her vehicle, she refused, told him he was "full of sh**," driving off and leading the officer on a brief pursuit.Hamil eventually pulled over in a parking lot, and the officer approached her vehicle with his gun pulled. The officer then pulled Hamil out of her truck, and she was caught on camera kicking him in the groin and resisting arrest.The officer deployed his Taser after she refused to put her hands behind her back, finally placing her under arrest."Do you realize you just got yourself in a whole lot more trouble?" the officer says."Yeah, I tried to kick you because I'm a country girl," Hamil said.Hamil refused medical attention, but officials said they brought her to the hospital for an assessment.The Kingfisher County District Attorney's office has accepted charges against Hamil for one felony assault on a police officer and one misdemeanor for resisting arrest. 1240

DETROIT — General Motors quietly removed a 2019 Chevrolet Blazer SUV from a display at the Detroit Tigers' stadium on Saturday after the company was criticized for including a vehicle built in Mexico as part of the advertisement. The criticism comes as GM plans to close four production plants in the United States in the coming months. Two of those plants — located in Hamtramck and Warren, Michigan — are both located within 20 miles of Comerica Park, home of the Tigers.
