Additionally, unemployment benefits for independent contractors and the self-employeed, like Uber drivers or gig workers, are set to expire as well. Congress for months has also allowed those recently laid off to enjoy 13 bonus weeks of unemployment, but that program expires December 31 as well. Many states have eviction moratoriums but the CDC order banning evictions ends December 31st. Congress could pass legislation to extend it. Tens of millions could face evictions because of rent issues. WHERE THINGS STANDDemocrats and Republicans remain far apart on passing any legislation between now and January 1. COVID related legislation isn't the only concern either. Funding for the government runs out on December 11 and a bill must be passed to keep the government open before then. TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- A Terre Haute police officer who died following an exchange of gunfire with a homicide suspect Friday night has been identified as Patrolman Rob Pitts, a 16-year veteran of the force.Pitts and three other officers with the Terre Haute Police Department were looking for a potential homicide suspect Friday afternoon at the Garden Quarter apartment complex.State police say the suspect started shooting at the officers from the second floor of an apartment building and the officers returned fire. Patrolman Pitts was wounded and later died at Terre Haute Regional hospital.The suspect was located around 9:15 p.m. when members of the Terre Haute Police Department SWAT team entered the apartment building.He also died from his wounds. His name has not been released. 835

Starbucks is the latest food chain to add plant-based meat options to its U.S. menus.The Seattle coffee chain said Tuesday they now offer a breakfast sandwich made with imitation sausage from Impossible Foods at a majority of its U.S. locations. The sandwich comes with egg and cheese on a ciabatta bun.Starbucks said earlier this year that it would add plant-based meat to its menus worldwide as part of an effort to reduce its environmental impact.
