SAN DIEGO (CNS) - County health officials confirmed a diagnosis of infectious pulmonary tuberculosis in a San Diego International Airport employee Friday but stressed that the risk of public exposure is considerably low.Officials with the county Health and Human Services Agency determined the potential exposure period to be Jan. 1 to May 29 in an area of the airport that the public cannot access. County health officials also found no evidence of the disease being transmitted from the employee to any close contacts.County officials said they are in the process of notifying employees of Southwest Airlines, G2 Secure Staff LCC and the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority about the possible exposure. Affected employees were being advised to talk to their employers for more information."In most cases, a person has to be in close contact with someone who has TB for a long period of time to be at risk for getting TB,'' said Dr. Dean Sidelinger, the county's interim deputy public health officer. "In this case the employee does not spend significant time in any given area, had minimal close contact with employees and contact with members of the public was limited to short periods of time.''Tuberculosis is generally transmitted through the air or via contact with an infected person. She faces a maximum of eight years and four months in state prison.On the third day of the defendant's preliminary hearing three months ago, Deputy District Attorney Michael Runyon dismissed allegations that Williams personally used a deadly weapon in the crimes. He said that because he couldn't prove that the pellet gun was loaded, the allegations had to be dismissed.Williams -- who has convictions for burglary in 1986 and assault in 2003 and was sent to prison in 2015 -- would have faced 62 years to life behind bars if convicted as charged.The defendant's good friend, Lisa Wilson, testified that Williams texted ``death by cop'' hours before the June 3 confrontation with officers. In body-worn camera video recorded as Williams was arrested, she is seen frantically trying to explain to Officer Ronald Hamilton that she is bipolar and off her medications.``She told me she wanted to harm herself,'' Hamilton testified. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A motorcyclist died Sunday in a head-on collision with a truck in the San Pasqual neighborhood, police said.The accident happened at 1:41 p.m. when a 65-year-old man riding a 2020 Harley Davidson motorcycle traveling east in the 18000 block of San Pasqual Valley Road crossed over the double yellow line and hit a 1997 Ford 250 driven by an 88-year-old man traveling west, according to Officer John Buttle of the San Diego Police Department.The motorcyclist died and the driver of the Ford and his passenger were taken to the hospital.Traffic Division is investigating the collision. 609

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Efforts stretched into a seventh day Friday to contain a wildfire that has blackened thousands of acres in rural eastern San Diego County, leveling at least 30 homes, dozens of outbuildings and forcing widespread evacuations.As of 6 p.m. Friday, crews had the sprawling burn area southeast of Alpine about 55% contained, according to Cal Fire. Firefighters remained particularly focused on its western and northern flanks, where smoldering hot spots were posing the most immediate remaining structural threats, the state agency reported.The conflagration, dubbed the Valley Fire, has blackened 17,665 acres, destroyed 30 residences and 29 auxiliary structures, damaged 11 other buildings and left two firefighters with minor injuries.Friday, all evacuation orders, warnings, and road closures had been lifted, according to CAL FIRE San Diego. Non-residents are asked to avoid the area.Cleveland National Forest remains under an Emergency Forest Closure order until conditions improve for future visitors.Residents returning to the area are asked to exercise extreme caution around trees, power poles, and other tall objects that may have been weakened by the fire.
