San Diego placed 11th among 50 other cities around the U.S., but America's Finest City wasn't alone. Los Angeles was ranked 2nd on the list. The company says all areas of the U.S. are prone to subterranean termites, but Pacific U.S. and coastal regions of the Southeast also have the threat of drywood termites. Subterranean termites swarm in the spring and summer while drywood termites usually swam in the late summer and fall. At first, the group of second- and third-grade students thought they were gathered to learn which student had won a bicycle after an essay challenge. One name was read. But then a second student won. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego police arrested a man in connection with the murder of a man on the I-15 freeway early Saturday morning.Police said 21-year old Brandon Acuna was in jail for his involvement in the murder of 21-year old Curtis Adams of San Diego.According to jail records, Acuna was booked for murder.Police did not confirm if he is directly responsible for Adams' death.Adams and his girlfriend were driving southbound on the freeway near the northbound I-5 on-ramp in Mountain View at around 2:20 a.m. on Saturday when they spotted a stranded car.The couple stopped their vehicle to help, said San Diego police homicide Lt. Anthony Dupree. Adams exited his vehicle and approached the other car.Someone inside the vehicle opened fire on Adams then fled the scene.Adams, an active-duty service member in the Navy, was taken to UCSD Medical Center, where he died from his injuries. Police said Acuna was also involved with an incident that happened 10 minutes earlier in a Mount Hope neighborhood.They say the suspect(s) in that incident shot at a victim after trying to break into his car near 600 Boundary Street. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer signed off Thursday on his .3 billion 2020 budget previously approved by the super majority of the city council.The budget funds the largest infrastructure investment in San Diego’s history and includes more funding for homelessness programs, road repairs, tree trimming services and housing reform.Faulconer appeared to be most excited about the expansion of the Clean San Diego initiative, which aims to clear debris from across the city.The mayor announced during his signing ceremony that million will go toward the expansion of the CSD program, and more crews will be hired to clean up areas citywide 24 hours a day, seven days a week.“We’re restoring pride back in our neighborhoods with every cleanup job, and now we’re investing more resources into ‘Clean SD’ so we can do even more for our communities,” said Faulconer.Funding for the program was more than doubled from Fiscal Year 2019 after Faulconer requested an additional .5 million for its budget.Since the program started in May 2017, more than 3,600 tons of debris have been removed from neighborhoods, canyons, and the San Diego River.Other efforts in the program include an increase in street sweeping in the East Village, sanitizing sidewalks, and graffiti removal. 1302
