WASHINGTON — U.S. long-term mortgage rates fell this week, reaching record lows for the 13th time this year amid fresh signs of weakness in the pandemic-ravaged economy. (KGTV) — Firefighters made short work of a fire that tore through a Vista home and set nearby vegetation ablaze Saturday evening.Vista Fire Department responded to reports of a fire in the area of Robelini Drive and El Valle Opulento just before 7 p.m. Firefighters arrived to find a brush fire extending into a home at 110 El Valle Opulento.As firefighters battled back the brush fire, other fire crews tackled flames shooting our of the home. Firefighters say that because of the "rapidly deteriorating conditions inside the home," crews were forced to get out of the home and fire the fire from outside.The fire was fully extinguished within about an hour, VFD said. One person was displaced from the home. No injuries were reported. It's not clear how the fire began. The fire is currently under investigation.Firefighters reminded homeowners to have working smoke alarms in their home and clear vegetation away from any structure. 957

VISTA (CNS) - An Oceanside man who allegedly fatally struck a pedestrian in a crosswalk while fleeing from another crash was charged Friday with murder, among other charges.Wesley Stuart, 27, was also charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, hit-and-run and drunken driving, and faces 15 years to life in state prison if convicted of all charges stemming from the Tuesday night death of 65-year-old Tran Thanhminh of Oceanside.Police said the initial crash was reported shortly after 10:15 p.m. Tuesday at Douglas Drive and Mission Avenue.RELATED: 65-year-old man killed, driver arrested in Oceanside hit-and-runInvestigators believe Stuart was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado pickup and was speeding eastbound on Mission, ran a red light and collided with a Ford F-150 pickup that was northbound on Douglas, Oceanside police Sgt. Rick Davis said.After the crash, the Chevy driver backed up and headed east on Mission, where he struck Thanhminh in a crosswalk, dragging him about 150 feet down the street, the sergeant said.Thanhminh, who died at the scene, was with his wife at the time, though she was not struck, authorities said.The couple had just closed their restaurant for the day and were walking home when he was hit, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office, which stated that his wife had already crossed the street when she heard the crash, but did not see her husband when she turned to look into the street.Stuart allegedly continued on Mission before getting out of the pickup at Rancho Del Oro and fleeing on foot with a passenger, Davis said.Officers searched the area with the help of a police helicopter and apprehended the two outside Stuart's home, Oceanside police spokesman Tom Bussey said.Stuart was arrested. VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A 17-year-old boy was arrested in Vista Thursday on suspicion of making terrorist threats against a north San Diego County campus, Oceanside Police said Friday. The Mission Vista High School student allegedly made the threat on Snapchat, posting “Don’t go to school tomorrow because the cleansing will commence,” according to investigators. Other students saw the post and reported it to school officials, who contacted police. The Vista Unified School District sent an automated message to parents to notify them about the threat. "In this situation the systems we have in place worked. A student saw something and said something. Please take this opportunity to speak with your child about school safety, and encourage them to be vigilant and to report any suspicious behavior or information they may have that jeopardizes their safety and that of others," said Lisa Contreras, VUSD Director of Communications.Contreras told 10News that the alleged threat did not target a specific campus or individual.
