SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — More Southern Californians are electing to live with their parents today, San Diego was considered among the top spots where adults live with their parents, ranking 15 on the 50-city survey, according to a study by MagnifyMoney. In the San Diego metropolitan area, 19.7% of adults aged 25 to 40 live with their parents, the study claimed."While these factors might play some role, the reality for most adults ages 25 to 40 living with their parents is that they lack the money to move out and establish their own households. Some might be unemployed and looking for work, while some have left the labor force altogether," the study says. "Other young adults have their own children and live with parents out of a need for child care and support."RELATED: MISD: How to save for a down payment on a San Diego homeThat group is broken down into:Those who have children: 25.3%Are unemployed (people who want to work but can't find employment): 6.9%Don't participate in the labor force (people who don't work outside of home and not seeking work): 17.2%The rankings used census data from 2017 to examine those who identified living at home with parents. Those who identified themselves as students were excluded.RELATED: MISD: Granny flat permits soar in San DiegoOther Southern California cities also hit the top of the list, including Riverside (1, 28.1% of adults living with parents), Los Angeles (3, 26.6% of adults living with parents), Sacramento (18, 18.7% of adults living with parents), San Francisco (19, 18.5% of adults living with parents), and San Jose (24, 17.6% of adults living with parents.)Some more tidbits about the numbers, more men in the surveyed age range were likely to live with their parents in every metro. Also, the average unemployment rate across all metros was 8.6%, more than twice the national rate of 4% as of January 2019.Across all metros, nearly one in five adults who live at home don't participate in the labor market at all. 1988

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - One of San Diego's most iconic buildings is getting an upgrade for the city's 250th-anniversary celebration. The Junipero Serra Museum will have 0,000 worth of renovations done this summer. The work will focus mainly on the exterior, repairing cracked and deteriorating stucco on the walls and adding a fresh coat of paint."We needed to move forward and return this building to the way it looked in 1929 because it is an important icon to the San Diego Region," says San Diego History Center CEO Bill Lawrence."It will gleam just like it did in 1929 when 40,000 people came to this spot for the dedication."The museum was established 90 years ago on the spot believed to be where Junipero Serra set up Mission San Diego, the first European settlement in California, in 1769. Archaeological research now shows the museum is about 100 yards away from the original site. It's been more than a decade since any structural work was done on the building. New roof tiles were added in 2008.The History Center raised 0,000 from the board and other donors to get work started on the West side of the building. They're hoping the City and County can help them fund the remaining 0,000 to complete work on the East side and the North Tower. In addition to the exterior work, the museum will unveil a new welcoming exhibit. That's been in the works for about seven years and has cost million."If you think about 1769 to 2019, it's 250 years. That seems like a long time," says Museum Collections and Education Vice President Dr. Tina Zarpour. "But humans have been living here for 12,000 years."The new exhibit will feature the stories of the Kumeyaay Nation and their contributions to San Diego before Serra arrived. Zarpour says it's essential to include that story to get the full breadth of San Diego History."This is a very layered, complex site," she says. "It means different things to different people. So we want to bring all of that to light.""Understanding all of the aspects, the good history, the bad history, is part of the process of bringing to light the complexity, the richness and what we as a community need to understand," says Lawrence.Part of the restoration also includes building a fourth flag pole on the grounds. That will hold the flag of the Kumeyaay Nation. The first phase of the work will be done by July 16th, the day recognized as the actual 250th anniversary. Museum officials hope the second phase of the work will be finished by the end of 2019.Anyone interested in donating to the museum's restoration fund should call the development team at 619-232-6203. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Mortgage brokers spent the past week calling and emailing clients around San Diego, telling people it's time to buy."Whenever I see a rate dip like that, my first reaction is to call everyone as fast as I can," says Broker Scott Davenport. "I try to get a hold of as many people that have been on that fence to jump on it as quickly as they can."The frenzy started when mortgage rates dropped .22% on March 27, to 4.06% on a 30-year fixed rate mortgage. It was the biggest single-week rate drop in more than a decade.RELATED: San Diego among top hot housing markets for 2019, Zillow reports"That could mean a savings of hundreds of dollars per month," says Davenport. "Or even hundreds of thousands of dollars over the course of a 30 year mortgage."Analysts say the drop came after the Federal Reserve said it was worried about the economy slowing down. It caused concern among investors, which led to good news for buyers."It's not gonna last," says Davenport. "You never know where the market's going to go. I expect rates to stay low through the summer, but at the same time, I don't expect them to stay low for long."Rates hit historic lows in 2012, around 3%, after the recession and housing bubble burst. Davenport says he doesn't see conditions that would create rates that low any time soon. That's why he's telling people to take advantage of the current rate near 4% now.He says anyone thinking of buying, or of refinancing a mortgage should get in touch with their broker now."Have the numbers run. It's something we do all the time," he says. "We can see if there's a benefit for a refinance with it, with the rate drop for you right now. Or if you're looking to buy a house, get pre-qualified first." 1739
