(KGTV) — Chula Vista's sprawling University and Innovation District site was presented to California State University consultants this week as a possible location for a future campus.Eric Crockett, Chula Vista's economic development director, says consultants provided city, business, and education leaders with "a lot of feedback" during discussions about the region's possibilities."Everybody was very supportive, everyone knows there’s a need for higher education," Crockett said. "South Bay has a need for higher education."Chula Vista Mayor Mary Casillas Salas added that the meeting showed "pretty significant movement" for the city's planned University and Innovation District, which includes more than 500 acres of availability for a campus."I think is the best argument in our favor is that we're in a bi-national region and that this is a huge economic driver in the State of California," Salas said. "It’s almost the same for-profit model."City officials have already envisioned the district would include a commercial and residential component. The now city-owned Olympic training center, adjacent to the site, added to the appeal for any collegiate athletics. Chula Vista laid all of those qualities on the table."We’re trying not to create a drain on the state or take money from other universities," Crockett said. "When we did our planning document, it also contains for-profit uses."In addition to Chula Vista's land availability, the area is home to Southwestern College and situated near several other community colleges, including San Diego City College, San Diego Mesa College, Cuyamaca College, and Grossmont College.Salas added that the city has continued talks with San Marcos-based Saint Katherine College for 10-acres of the site. Salas said that university could potentially start off the site's development and work alongside the CSU development, adding more appeal for CSU.Consultants will continue to meet with leaders from each community to learn how a potential campus could best serve the state's higher education needs. Those meetings will consider the area's relationship with community colleges, benefit to the region, land availability, and potential enrollment.Consultants developing the feasibility study are working on behalf of CSU to keep the process objective, Uhlenkamp says. CHULA VISTA (CNS) - A former employee of the Sweetwater Union High School District pleaded guilty Wednesday to an embezzlement charge for siphoning more than ,000 from the district.Danya Margarita Williams, 42 of Chula Vista, is scheduled to be sentenced June 13 in a Chula Vista courtroom. Another embezzlement count, as well as a grand theft count, are expected to be dismissed as part of the plea deal.As part of her job, Williams was responsible for processing money orders received for fingerprint background investigations at the district, which are required during employment screenings, according to Chula Vista police Capt. Phil Collum.Each background investigation costs between to per applicant, and the applicants pay the fee using money orders, he said.``Instead of processing the money in accordance with district requirements, Williams deposited the money into her personal bank account,'' Collum said.District officials discovered the embezzlement -- which occurred between June 2016 and December 2017 -- and reported it to police, he said. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A South Bay family who discovered the body of their loved one buried in a backyard in Tijuana tells 10News there's now an arrest warrant for that woman's stepson. Fernanda Gonzalez went missing in Tijuana on February 2nd. Her sister, Erika Gonzalez, tells 10News Tijuana authorities issued the warrant for 20-year-old Aaron Seth Juarez wanted in connection with his stepmom's murder. The family's attorney, Jesus Rodolfo Cruz, tells 10News Fernanda's Jeep Grand Cherokee is still missing. The Jeep has California plates that read 6VXP431. Gonzalez first reported her sister missing in early February and posted on social media asking for help finding her. Gonzalez tells 10News each post had thousands of shares before she got a phone call that changed the course of the search, "somebody call me and said to keep looking for my sister because she was already dead and in the back of her yard".RELATED: Woman discovers her sister's body buried in Tijuana backyardAfter getting two calls saying the same thing, Gonzalez and her father went to Fernanda's home in Tijuana and searched the backyard, eventually finding Fernanda's body buried.
