SALT LAKE CITY, Utah -- A Salt Lake City K-9 officer has been charged with aggravated assault in connection with an April 24 incident.Officer Nickolas John Pearce, 39, responded to a report of domestic violence that day. Pearce is accused of commanding his K-9, Tuco, to bite Jeffery Ryans, even though Ryans was on his knees and had his hands in the air."When K-9 Tuco engaged and was biting Ryans, [Pearce] continually praised and encouraged K-9 Tuco," a probable cause statement said. "While he was being attacked by K-9 Tuco, Ryans expressed extreme emotions reflective of pain from being bitten by K-9 Tuco and plead with the officers to stop the biting. He questioned why he was being attacked when he was not resisting."Ryans suffered large lacerations and required hospitalization for his injuries. He was last seen wearing black gym shorts, hiking boots, and a green t-shirt with blue sleeves.Jolley is 5 feet 8 inches tall, 140 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 43-year-old man was hospitalized Wednesday morning with serious injuries after the car he was riding in crashed into four parked cars on a Mountain View street, police said.It happened shortly before 10:30 p.m. Tuesday on South 40th Street just south of Imperial Avenue, San Diego Police Officer Robert Heims said.A 38-year-old man was driving a 2005 Honda Civic southbound on South 40th Street when the car drifted to the right for unknown reasons and struck four parked cars, Heims said.The 43-year-old man, who was sitting in the front passenger seat of the Honda, was taken to a hospital for treatment of a fractured neck, which was not believed to be life-threatening, the officer said.The Honda driver was uninjured and 31-year-old man in the back seat of the sedan had a complaint of pain to his leg, Heims said. 847

(KGTV) -- The California Assembly has voted to ban the manufacture and sale of new fur products.Animal welfare groups have rallied around the bill, arguing the fur industry is inhumane and pointing to alternatives like faux fur.But opponents of the bill have countered that the proposed law would devastate fur retailers and manufacturers.Some California cities, including Los Angeles, San Francisco and Berkeley, have already passed ordinances banning the sale of fur.The New York City council has also considered banning fur sales in America's biggest city.The bill would not include used fur products or furs used for traditional purposes. SAN DIEGO — One of San Diego's biggest restaurant chains will reopen Friday, with plans to hire up to 250 new people by summer.Each of the Brigantine's 14 restaurants will begin hosting guests at the end of the week with spaced out tables, employee temperature checks and increased hand sanitizing stations, chief executive Mike Morton said in an interview Tuesday. Morton added that tables will be spaced out, but that outdoor event space at some locations will be converted to main dining to increase capacity. "It's a hard business when the economy is at full strength and there's not this silent enemy out there," he said. "Now it's just another element to deal with."The chain includes Brigantine, Miguel's Cocina, and Ketch Tap and Grill. Morton said the organization has been able to bring back most of its 1,100 furloughed workers, though some have declined because of unemployment boosts. He cautioned that decision as short sighted, given the tight job market that will persist after the extra benefits have gone away. Meanwhile, Brigantine is advertising 134 openings on its website at locations across the county. Additionally, Morton said Brigantine plans to hire as many as 250 additional for its Portside Pier complex, which is scheduled to open in July along the Embarcadero, on the site of the former Anthony's Fish Grotto. The facility will include three restaurants, two bars and a gelato and coffee shop. "We're always looking for good people," Morton said. "There might not be a spot available today but there might be three tomorrow."Brigantine closed its chain of restaurants two days after the governor's stay-at-home order went into effect in mid March.
