However, officials warn that counting the ballots could take days.In Bucks County, a heavily populated suburban county near Philadelphia has a population of about 628,000 people. In 2016, Hillary Clinton won the county by a narrow lead with a few thousand votes. This time around, both presidential campaigns have been courting the suburban vote, and the suburban Philadelphia counties are considered critical. Polls across the state closed at 8 p.m. EST, and now the more than 2 million mail-in ballots the state has received can now be counted. “We sent out about 200,000 ballots, which is 10 times more than we did four years ago, and we've gotten back somewhere in the area 160,000,” said Bob Harvie, Bucks County, Pennsylvania Board of Elections Chairman. “We still have mail coming in obviously today that we can accept. We had U.P.S. dropping off some ballots. We've got drop boxes that will be emptied at 8, and those will be brought here, and we don't know how much will be in those.” In Pennsylvania, more than 2 million mail-in ballots have been returned so far. The state doesn’t have a lot of experience dealing with large amounts of mail-in ballots, unlike places like Colorado, Washing, and even Florida and Arizona, where ballots have been counted as they come in. However, in Bucks County, officials didn’t begin counting ballots until after the polls closed, and a handful of Pennsylvania counties won’t start counting until tomorrow. “It's been a big challenge. It has been, you know, primarily because we were not even able toopen the envelopes until today. And there's a security envelope. So, that's two envelopes you need to open. You need to be able to make sure that everything is on there, their name, their address, the date,” said Diane Marseglia, Bucks County Board of Elections. “So, you're checking for a lot of things all at the same time and then you're pulling it out, and then, you're going to start to gather them for a vote. WILSON, N.C. – The father of a 5-year-old boy who was fatally shot outside his North Carolina home says he cannot understand why someone would want to harm his son.Austin Hinnant told WRAL that his son, Cannon, was playing on his bike in the yard of their Wilson home when he heard a gunshot while inside.Hinnant says he ran outside and found Cannon suffering from a gunshot wound to his head. He scooped his son up in his arms and screamed for someone to help.The father claims he looked up and saw his neighbor, Darius Sessoms, in the yard next door, with a gun in his hand, pacing."I was looking at him as I was picking up Cannon,” Hinnant told WRAL. “I was so full of rage, but I couldn't leave my son's side. I wanted to be with my son."The boy was rushed to an area hospital, where he later died.A warrant was issued for Sessoms and police say he was taken into custody on Monday. The 25-year-old has been charged with 1st degree murder and is being held without bond.Sessoms doesn’t appear to be a stranger to the family. Hinnant says he had Sessoms over for dinner just the night before."I have no idea why he would kill my son in front of his two sisters and his cousin,” Hinnant told WRAL. “I have no idea."Law enforcement has not provided any details regarding a possible motive for Cannon’s murder.A funeral for the little boy was held Thursday. WNCN reports that hundreds gathered at the Shingleton Funeral Home in Wilson to pay their respects, including Cannon’s grandmother, Merrill Race.Race told WNCN that Cannon was “just a kid trying to have fun in his own yard and something like this happens. WICHITA FALLS, Texas — A man who was in jail awaiting trial for charges of sexually assaulting a child was released after his parents won the lottery and he posted a 0,000 bond.Jason Carlile is the 47-year-old suspect's name, and he is out from behind bars with an ankle bracelet for monitoring by authorities as well as a curfew. Carlile is the same man who was convicted in 2007 of buying a 15-year-old girl from the girl's mother. He served a three-year sentence.The girl's mother was also given a prison sentence in the incident, KFDX reports.Carlile's mother and stepdad won million in the Oct. 31 Lotto Texas drawing. It was purchased at a Fill and Chill store.The Times Record News reports Carlile has a history of sex crimes involving children.In 1994, there was an arrest warrant for him for exposing the genitals of another adult to a child and recording it.  914

White House officials have told congressional leaders and appropriators that President Donald Trump does not want any additional relief funding sent to Puerto Rico, a congressional leadership aide told CNN on Monday.While there are no talks to cut funds that have already been appropriated, a White House aide said negotiations have focused on keeping Puerto Rico relief funding out of a supplemental spending bill that would fund relief efforts in parts of the south that were ravaged by hurricanes this year.That aide noted Puerto Rican officials haven't yet spent all the money Congress has set aside for them, and said the administration is moving to stop any more money from going to help the island "because they don't need it and will most likely not be able to spend it."Trump's latest positioning on Puerto Rico was first reported by Axios. Winston-Salem, NC (WGHP) -- Two women were arrested on child abuse charges Tuesday, according to a news release from Winston-Salem police in North Carolina.Michaela Pearson and Candice Little are each charged with felony child abuse and three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.Officers received numerous reports of a Facebook video showing multiple young children being given what appeared to be an illegal substance by two women.The children were 2 years old, 3 years old and 18 months old, according to arrest warrants. 548
