BEIJING, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) of China's manufacturing sector rose to 55.2 percent in November, up 0.5 percentage points from October, the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing said Wednesday.The figure marked the 21th straight month that the index was above the boom-and-bust line of 50 percent.The PMI includes a package of indices to measure performance of the country's manufacturing sector. A reading above 50 percent indicates economic expansion, while that below 50 percent indicates contraction. 

WUHAN, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said on Sunday that Sino-Indian relations have global influence as well as strategic significance.Yang made the remarks while meeting with his Indian counterpart, S.M. JINAN, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- China and the Republic of Korea (ROK)Tuesday launched a joint land and sea transport services in a bid to cut logistics costs and boost trade.Semi-trailers loaded with cargo can now be shipped between Qingdao, Rizhao, Yantai, Weihai, Longyan and Shidao in the eastern Chinese province of Shandong and Incheon, Pyungtack and Kunsan in the ROK.The service can cut transport time by 3.5 hours and reduce costs by 50 U.S. dollars per container, as trailers can be driven directly to customers without unloading and loading, according to the ROK's Transport Research Institute.The service is expected to boost the shipments of fresh vegetables, live fish and other fragile products such as glass and electronics.Gao Hongtao, deputy director of the Shandong Provincial Transportation Bureau, said that with continuous oxygen charging and temperature control, the service can increase by 10 percent the survival rate of live fish exported from Weihai to the ROK.The two countries would later allow trucks to be shipped, according to an agreement they signed in September. The ports might also later include locations such as northeast China's Liaoning Province, according to Ju Chengzhi, director of the international cooperation department with China's Ministry of Transport.This year marks the 20th year since the launching of cargo, passenger and container sea transport services between China and the ROK. China has become the ROK's largest trading partner, both as its largest importer and exporter.

GUIYANG, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- At least six people were killed and 34 others injured in an explosion that ripped through an Internet cafe in southwest China's Guizhou Province Saturday night, according to local police.The explosion occurred at around 10:30 p.m. in an Internet cafe in the downtown area of the Kaili City of Miao-Dong Autonomous Prefecture of Qiandongnan, said Guizhou's provincial public security department.Victims have been pulled out of the debris and the injured rushed to hospitals, said the department.Rescue workers at the scene said the powerful blast had turned the cafe into "complete ruins" and also destroyed windows of nearby residential buildings.The police are investigating the cause of the explosion and search and rescue work is still underway.

BEIJING, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Public Security (MPS) has ordered a fresh crackdown on the infringement of well-known foreign and domestic brands' intellectual property rights (IPRs).Greater efforts must be made to fight the production and sale of pirated books, audio, video, software, medicine, food and agricultural products, Liu Jinguo, deputy minister of public security, said at a meeting in Beijing Friday, according to a statement posted on the MPS website Saturday.The special nationwide campaign started Friday and will last until March 2011.At a Nov. 5 meeting, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao urged government agencies to target the root causes of IPRs infringement while strengthening IPRs protection.In a statement Xinhua received Friday, the MPS said Chinese police in a special March 2006 operation uncovered 3,775 cases of IPRs infringement.In a July 2007 campaign conducted in cooperation with the U.S. Federal Bureau of Intelligence, Chinese police arrested over 20 in connection to the cases.
