Most visitors to Disneyland leave with a souvenir or two: a set of mouse ears, perhaps, or a plush version of a beloved Disney character. Not Richard Kraft."I'm not satisfied with a souvenir book or a little pennant: I had to actually own pieces of the park," says Kraft, who admits "I'm a bit obsessive."He grew up in Bakersfield, California, a few hours' drive north of Disneyland, and his schoolteacher parents would save money for annual trips to the theme park. His older brother, David, had Crohn's disease, so they could go only when he was healthy.When David died, 25 years ago, Kraft found himself drawn back to Disneyland, to the sights and smells and tastes that brought back memories."These were the same sidewalks I walked as a child with my brother," Kraft recalls."Then he heard about an auction of Disneyland travel posters. He bid on an Autopia poster, won it -- and was hooked.His quarter-century of collecting is currently on display as "That's From Disneyland!", a 20,000-square-foot pop-up exhibit filling an old sporting goods store in Sherman Oaks, California. It includes everything from attraction vehicles and props to park signage and concept drawings -- more than 750 items in all.Guests are greeted by a scale model of Main Street, surrounded by concept artwork, the "travel posters" that lined the entrance tunnels, and even a Disneyland mailbox. Further treasures are organized by "land" -- Adventureland, Frontierland, New Orleans Square, Fantasyland, and Tomorrowland.The vehicles are a big draw: at the exhibit's opening, guests lined up to take selfies in an original blue Skyway bucket or a car from Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, and to snap photos of Dumbo the Flying Elephant, a pirate ship from Peter Pan's Flight, and a yellow original PeopleMover vehicle -- one of only 13 known still to exist. There's a Matterhorn Bobsled, and a "Doom Buggy" that transported guests through the Haunted Mansion.You'll need a lot of room for some of these items: a 40-foot sea serpent from the Submarine Voyage, a 38-foot Davy Crockett Explorer Canoe, and a 16-foot-tall neon script "D" from the top of the Disneyland Hotel.And you'd better have high ceilings to accommodate the four original stretching portraits from the Haunted Mansion - remember Paul Frees' basso profundo voice asking you, "Is this haunted room actually stretching? Or is it your imagination, hmm?"A half-dozen "It's A Small World" animated dolls and a figure from the massive clock outside the attraction are on display. Mercifully, the ride's notorious earworm of a theme song is not playing -- though visitors do hear "...in the tiki tiki tiki tiki tiki room," courtesy of José, an audio-animatronic parrot who still sings his song from Adventureland's Enchanted Tiki Room.There are even genuine Disneyland "waste paper" cans -- you never saw the word "trash" in the Happiest Place on Earth -- and, overhead, the first and last Disney items that decades of visitors saw: blue triangular parking lot signs, informing guests they were parked in Minnie's, Goofy's, Pinocchio's or Tinker Bell's section.The exhibit and auction organizer, Van Eaton Galleries has become known for Disney memorabilia auctions: one last year included the original 1953 Disneyland map. But co-owner Mike Van Eaton says this auction is his largest by far, calling it "one of the most amazing private collections I've ever seen.""You don't see a lot of people with, say, a Space Mountain car in their backyard, or a 40-foot-long sea serpent, for that matter, by their swimming pool. It's the kind of collection you'll see once in a lifetime," says Van Eaton.Kraft had purchased items for his collection at past Van Eaton auctions, and sought out Mike when he decided to finally follow Elsa's command from "Frozen" and "Let it go."One reason Kraft decided to sell: his four-year-old daughter, Daisy, was born with Coffin-Siris Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder causing delays in physical and mental development. Part of the auction's proceeds will go to the Coffin-Siris Foundation, as well as the CHIME Institute, which pursues inclusive education -- schools where children who develop typically, those with special needs, and gifted children learn side by side. His other condition before agreeing to sell: a month-long opportunity for the public to see everything he'd spent 25 years collecting before it is auctioned in a few weeks."We have a very passionate collector who doesn't just want to list items: he wants to share them with everyone," says Van Eaton. They have already seen flooding on 18th Street in National City this week, caused by the king tides. Now with the rain, many expect it to be worse. According to FEMA, businesses near West 18th Street and Roosevelt Ave. are right in a low-elevation flood zone. Ocean water travels from the San Diego Bay, up the Sweetwater Channel, and into Paradise Creek. That creek backs right into Jose's Auto Electric yard. Wednesday morning, the city shut down the road because of flooded streets caused by King Tides. During the day, luckily, the water receded before reaching the front door at Jose's Auto Electric. Check 10News Pinpoint Weather The combination of rain and king tides reminded employee Alma Ramirez of last year's disaster. She remembered 30 inches of rainwater gushing into her office and destroying her equipment. "We lost a lot of stuff, and I remembered that I forgot my purse," Ramirez said. "I said, 'Oh my purse!' And I tried to come back, but in less than five minutes, the water was already up. And I said 'Forget about it, just let me get out of here.'"If the flooding gets worse, Ramirez said she may have to move all of the low profile cars in their shop to another location to avoid flood damage for their customers.Meanwhile, neighboring businesses closer to Paradise Creek have already put up sandbags to protect their front office doors and garages. Ramirez hopes it does not get to that point for her shop.The National Weather Services estimates the Flash Flood Watch to continue through 10 p.m. Thursday. Nate Silver announced Tuesday that his analytics-based politics and sports site, FiveThirtyEight, will now be operated by ABC News.The site was previously owned and operated ESPN. Both ESPN and ABC News are owned by the same parent company, Disney.Silver, the site's editor-in-chief, also tweeted that the site would continue to cover sports and that ESPN would still showcase the site's sports content."We're super excited to work with @ABC and combine our strengths with theirs as we tackle the 2018 and 2020 elections and other news stories," Silver tweeted.ABC News also confirmed the news on Tuesday afternoon.FiveThirtyEight's move comes at a turbulent time for ESPN. The company recently hired a new president, Jimmy Pitaro, after former president John Skipper resigned following a cocaine extortion attempt. ESPN has also lost millions of cable subscriptions as consumers have begun favoring streaming services over traditional cable packages.FiveThirtyEight was founded in 2008 with the goal of using analytical data to cover sports and politics. Monday morning, the CDC removed what it calls was a “draft version of proposed changes” to their website that seemed to indicate they were embracing mounting evidence that COVID-19 is airborne and is transmitted through tiny droplets that can linger in the air and spread farther than six feet.“A draft version of proposed changes to these recommendations was posted in error to the agency’s official website. CDC is currently updating its recommendations regarding airborne transmission of SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19). Once this process has been completed, the update language will be posted,” the CDC website now reads.The website was changed over the weekend, according to multiple media reports, to reflect several updates to their guidance about how COVID-19 spreads and preventative measures to take.The “draft” changes included stating COVID-19 transmits through the air and warned about poorly ventilated situations, saying that is “thought to be the main way the virus spreads.”On the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s website about coronavirus, under how it spreads, they listed the main way as: “Through respiratory droplets or small particles, such as those in aerosols, produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes, sings, talks, or breathes. These particles can be inhaled into the nose, mouth, airways, and lungs and cause infection.”They also had updated the guidance that particles can remain in the air longer and travel farther than originally thought.“There is growing evidence that droplets and airborne particles can remain suspended in the air and be breathed in by others, and travel distances beyond 6 feet (for example, during choir practice, in restaurants, or in fitness classes). In general, indoor environments without good ventilation increase this risk,” the CDC website read over the weekend.The website has been changed back to their previous guidance which states COVID-19 is believed to be transferred through larger droplets through close contact, closer than six feet, with a person who coughs, sings, or otherwise expels these larger droplets carrying the virus.The updated draft passages and comments on smaller particles and ventilation appeared to embrace recent studies from the CDC.Including one released by the CDC earlier this month showing Americans with positive COVID-19 test results were twice as likely to eat at a restaurant or cafe than those who tested negative.“Reports of exposures in restaurants have been linked to air circulation. Direction, ventilation, and intensity of airflow might affect virus transmission, even if social distancing measures and mask use are implemented according to current guidance. Masks cannot be effectively worn while eating and drinking, whereas shopping and numerous other indoor activities do not preclude mask use,” that report stated.In the “draft” changes to the CDC website, they included a preventative measure about ventilation, stating “Airborne viruses, including COVID-19, are among the most contagious and easily spread.” That passage is no longer on the website.The draft changes on the air transmission of COVID-19 also came on the heels of the CDC’s director, Dr. Robert Redfield, saying masks could be even more helpful in combating the coronavirus than a vaccine. President Donald Trump said later Redfield was confused by the question and misspoke.The World Health Organization changed their guidance and noted the prevalence of air transmission, and those particles lingering in the air, earlier this summer in July.
